The Gloxinia plant is small and delicate, with a long flowering period, blooming twice a year in spring and autumn, and comes in diverse colors. It is an ideal indoor decorative flower. If you like it this much, there is no need to buy one. The editor will teach you how to turn a leaf into a Gloxinia.

One of the most widespread methods of propagating Gloxinia is by cuttings, and Gloxinia leaf cuttings are the most commonly used cutting method. Many flower enthusiasts have discovered different leaf cutting methods, but the method described in this article is rather special. This "lazy person's" leaf cutting method has a fairly high success rate. Below, we will introduce the Gloxinia leaf cutting methods separately.

  Cutting time:

  Suitable cutting time: April-August

  Materials to prepare:

1 flower pot, an appropriate amount of clean river sand or a base soil mix of perlite and vermiculite, plastic wrap

  Specific operation method/steps:

  1. After flowering, take leaves. Select healthy leaves from a superior individual plant, with a petiole about 1 cm long. After removing them, soak the petioles in rooting powder solution for 3 seconds.

  2. Fill the pot with river sand or mixed base soil, insert the leaf into the pot, with one third inserted into the river sand, then cover with plastic wrap and spray water once in the morning and once in the evening.

  3. Then it is just a matter of slowly waiting. If a slight touch on the leaf surface feels like it has become fixed in place, that means it has rooted. Once new shoots emerge, it can be transplanted.

Gloxinia is a very unusual flower. It is relatively difficult to maintain as a potted plant in daily care, but it is quite easy to propagate. One leaf can be used to propagate many plants. You only need to insert a thick, complete leaf diagonally into the soil, and it will grow into new plants. Some flower enthusiasts have also discovered that cutting a Gloxinia leaf into multiple pieces can also produce new plants. Its regenerative ability is truly impressive.

  Key technical points:

  1. On the mother Gloxinia plant that you plan to use for leaf cuttings, find an inconspicuous leaf that can be covered up without affecting the overall appearance.

  2. Fold this leaf in the middle along the main vein, breaking the main vein, but the leaf blade must still remain connected.

  3. Leave the leaf in place until the broken part of the vein has completely healed, forming a fleshy nodule.

  4. Remove the half-leaf with the fleshy nodule.

  5. Place the half-leaf with its surface facing up on your preferred medium (I use a three-in-one mix) and grow it under enclosed, humid conditions.

  6. After that there is not much else to say. Here are the pictures directly. This is my Gloxinia leaf 25 days after leaf cutting. You can see that bud points have already sprouted, while the Gloxinia I propagated at the same time is still rooting, and the ones in water have all failed completely.

  7. With this method, when humidity is high, the fleshy nodule can directly sprout.
