In recent years, modern urban life has often been plagued by smoggy weather, and inhaling the toxic substances in smog causes great harm to human health. In view of this, people have had to buy various anti-smog products, which has naturally boosted the hot sales of potted green plants such as pothos, because pothos is truly a natural purification expert that can remove a large amount of harmful substances from the air and has an extremely obvious effect on improving indoor PM2.5. Therefore, pothos is increasingly favored by people, who plant it one after another as an indoor potted green plant.

Growing a few pothos plants in pots at home and placing them on the balcony, desk and other places purifies the air for us while also being pleasing to the eye. It can be seen that potted pothos is not only eye-catching but also very practical. Some gardening friends have grown tired of the traditional soil-culture method and want to try a different flair but still only want to grow pothos. Since that is the case, today the editor will share with you the method of propagating pothos from cuttings in water, hoping it can also elevate your flair.

  1. First, we need to choose a normally growing pothos as the mother plant, then use sterilized scissors to cut some robust growing branches from the mother plant as cuttings. When pruning, it is recommended to cut diagonally along the branch so that the cut surface appears as a slanted plane, then rinse the branches clean with water, especially the dust on the leaves.

  2. After washing the branches clean, cut them into several segments, each about 10-odd cm long, but you need to make sure that each segment retains a protruding bud node, so as to ensure that after planting each segment can sprout roots and grow shoots.

  3. Prepare a relatively shallow glass flower pot, pour some clean water into the pot, then arrange the cut pothos cuttings evenly in the pot, and at the same time check whether the bud points on the pothos branches are all soaked in the water. If they are not soaked, you can add some more water or gently press these bud points below the water surface to ensure all bud points have been soaked in water.

  4. After about 1 week or so, the bud points on the pothos branches will sprout from inside the epidermis, revealing pure white tender shoots, and next they will slowly put out slender tender white rootlets. When the rootlets grow to a certain length, it means the cultivation of the pothos seedlings has succeeded. But when the amount of water in the pot decreases, you need to add water appropriately to ensure these young pothos plants can grow smoothly; because the roots are tender, avoid direct strong light.

The above is the method of propagating pothos from cuttings in water shared by the editor. After successful water propagation, apart from changing the water for the young plants, we just sit back and wait for them to grow into a lush, water-grown potted pothos.
