How to prune Monstera deliciosa for water propagation? You'll get the right method at a glance
In the previous articles, we mainly talked about topics related to potted Monstera deliciosa grown in soil. In fact, Guibei division is also very well suited to hydroponic growing; we can convert a soil-grown Monstera deliciosa to hydroponic growing by washing its roots. Of course, besides this method, we can also propagate it by water cuttings, so how exactly do we do it?

Because Monstera deliciosa has huge leaves and thick stems, if you grow it hydroponically, you should choose a thick, sturdy glass vessel, so as to avoid it tipping over because the top is heavy and the base is light. Hydroponic vessels mostly use oval-shaped glass hydroponic containers.
When we cut the cuttings, we must first make sure the stems have complete aerial roots; when inserting the cuttings, these aerial roots also need to be placed into the water, and the aerial roots will change roles and become nutrient roots, supporting the growth of the whole plant.
If you are converting a soil-grown plant to hydroponic growing, you need to take it out of the potting mix, then wash off the soil sticking to the plant's roots, then prune the roots scientifically and reasonably, and then insert it into the hydroponic vessel. Of course, during this process, try not to damage the healthy, vigorous roots; even if you prune, you can only prune those small, old and weak fibrous roots.
Before inserting the cuttings, you need to pour water to a suitable depth into the prepared vessel; be careful not to fill it too full, and keep a distance from the upper rim. Then put 2/3 of the Monstera deliciosa's roots into the water, and the other 1/3 of the roots can remain above the water surface, so that the plant's roots can absorb oxygen both through the air and through the water. Afterwards, check the plant's growth status from time to time; if the roots grow normally and new branches and leaves begin to sprout, it means our hydroponic process has been successful.
In the subsequent care and management process, we need to change the clean water about once every 1 week, until the roots have produced enough long water roots; after the plant returns to normal growth, you can appropriately add some nutrient solution, usually just a few drops, and after that you can move on to normal care and management.
