Since Acorus gramineus likes moisture, plants growing in the wild can easily obtain water, but a potted Acorus gramineus at home cannot get water from nature the way wild plants do, so manual watering naturally becomes a task that needs to be done almost every day. Many hobbyists fail to grow their Acorus gramineus well simply because they often do not water thoroughly enough, and the plants develop various problems due to lack of water. So today we will discuss the watering of Acorus gramineus bonsai.

In the previous article, we told you that suitable water for growing Acorus gramineus includes clean rainwater, well water, overnight boiled water, and so on. So how should Acorus gramineus bonsai be watered? Below we will explain the watering methods and techniques for Acorus gramineus bonsai.

1. Because the leaves of a normally growing Acorus gramineus are relatively fine and dense, especially in varieties such as Jinqian and Jiji, which are not only fine and dense but also rather short and small, during watering you must never pour water onto the leaves, and even more importantly avoid spraying or sprinkling water on the leaves, otherwise it easily causes leaf rot, especially in the hot summer.

2. The correct watering method is to fill a narrow-spout pot with water, then let the spout water in circles along the inner wall of the container; next, gradually move closer and water around the base of the plant, and each time you water you should keep the operation even and water thoroughly.

3. Since Acorus gramineus likes moisture and fears dryness, under normal circumstances it is recommended to water once a day. Of course, when planting Acorus gramineus you need to make sure the growing medium is a granular type of substrate, and that the bottom of the container has drainage holes, so that water can drain away quickly. This is because the roots of Acorus gramineus soaked in water for a long time easily suffer from lack of oxygen and develop root rot.

4. In summer and autumn, due to the effects of temperature and wind, water evaporates relatively heavily, and these two seasons are also the vigorous growth period of Acorus gramineus, so during this time the number of waterings needs to be increased, from once a day before to 2 times now. Also, in summer watering should be done in the morning and evening; watering at noon under high temperatures easily damages the physiological functions of the plant roots and thereby inhibits growth. Of course, when the winter temperature is too low, the plant enters dormancy and its water demand naturally decreases, so the watering frequency should also be reduced.

From the points above, you can see that watering Acorus gramineus is actually not difficult; as long as we master the techniques, no problems will arise:

1. Acorus gramineus likes water, so watering should be timely, and it must never be left in a water-deficient state for a long time;

2. When watering, never sprinkle or spray water on the leaves;

2. In summer, watering should be done in the morning and evening, and must never be done at noon under high-temperature weather.

3. Avoid keeping the roots in water for a long time, otherwise it will affect root respiration.
