How to Propagate Bougainvillea by Cuttings Using Floral Foam
As floral foam becomes known to more and more gardening enthusiasts, its use in flower arranging is becoming increasingly widespread, but floral foam cannot be used to grow plants. This is because floral foam does not have the functions of traditional soil and contains no nutrients; it is mainly used to hold cut flowers in place and keep them moist.

Even so, floral foam can be used for cuttings. So, how do you use floral foam to complete cuttings? Below, the editor will explain floral foam cutting techniques to you using bougainvillea cuttings in floral foam as an example.
1. Prepare the floral foam
Whether it is floral foam left over from cut flowers, floral foam picked up on the roadside, floral foam given by others, or even purchased floral foam, in short, as long as it is floral foam it will do. Next, according to the needs of the cuttings, cut it into cubes.
2. Prepare the cuttings
For the cuttings, it is best to take healthy branches of the current year that have reached a woody or semi-woody degree, with a length of about 10-15 cm being ideal. The upper part of the cuttings should retain 2-3 leaves, and all the remaining leaves should be removed to reduce water evaporation; the lower part of the cuttings should be cut off at a 45-degree angle, and then placed in rooting water to soak for a period of time.
3. The cutting process
After the floral foam and cuttings are prepared, insert the cuttings into the floral foam cubes, with a depth of about half the height of the floral foam cube being ideal. Next, we place the floral foam cubes in water and let them soak.
4. Post-cutting management
After completing the cuttings in the floral foam, place them under a transparent plastic cover and cover them well, then move them to a bright place where they can receive scattered light. What needs to be done next is to manage moisture retention and ventilation well, and keep the temperature at 20°C or above. After about 1 month, if we can see the roots of the seedlings emerging from the bottom of the floral foam, it means the cuttings have succeeded. We can also transplant the seedlings together with the floral foam into pots.
