Hibiscus, often called cotton rose or hibiscus flower, is a flowering plant with large and beautiful blooms that are colorful when they open. Moreover, when the hibiscus blooms, it is as splendid as clouds, and it is the city flower of Chengdu. It is not only widely used in landscaping, street trees and other aspects, but can even be dwarfed into a household potted plant for growing, and it also has very high ornamental value.

Not only that, the young seedlings of hibiscus flower are also relatively easy to cultivate, and the young seedlings of potted hibiscus flower can be propagated by sowing, cuttings, division and other methods. Below, the editor will share with everyone the propagation methods of potted hibiscus flower!

  1. Sowing method

The sowing and propagation process of hibiscus flower is generally carried out in spring. First, we need to collect fully mature hibiscus flower seeds after autumn of the previous year, then store them in a cool and ventilated place until the following spring, when they are taken out for sowing.

Because hibiscus flower seeds are relatively small, when sowing they are generally mixed with fine soil, and then the seeds and fine soil are sown together by broadcasting. Moreover, the soil used for the seedling bed for broadcasting is also very fine soil particles. After broadcasting the seeds well, culture soil should be covered in time and water sprayed to keep the seedling bed at suitable humidity.

If all goes well, usually after 1 month, sprouting and seedling emergence will occur, and by the spring of the following year they can be used as potted seedlings for potting and transplanting. During the seedling raising period, in addition to doing a good job in the management of light, temperature, water and fertilizer, it is also necessary to do a good job in pest and disease prevention and control in time, especially after potting and planting, where maintenance and management methods are even more important.

  2. Cutting method

For the propagation of young seedlings of potted flowering plants, most plants can use cuttings to propagate young seedlings, and hibiscus flower is the same. However, the cutting work of hibiscus flower is generally best carried out during February to March in spring.

For cutting hibiscus flower, the cutting bed can use moist sandy loam, and even clean moist river sand is also acceptable; the cuttings should be robust branches 1-2 years old, with a length of 10-15 cm being appropriate. But before cutting, it is best to soak the end of the cutting used for insertion in a diluted potassium permanganate solution for half an hour to sterilize and disinfect.

The cutting of hibiscus flower is relatively simple; just insert the prepared cuttings directly into the cutting bed. The insertion depth of the cuttings should preferably be kept at 2/3 of the cutting. After completing the cutting and watering, plastic film should also be covered in time to keep warm and moist and prevent excessive evaporation of water. During this period, if the humidity is insufficient, the film should be uncovered for misting. If all goes well, rooting and sprouting will appear in about 30 days.

  3. Division method

Many flowering plants are also suitable for obtaining potted seedlings by division, and this method is also suitable for potted hibiscus flower. However, the division propagation process of hibiscus flower generally starts before sprouting in early spring. This is because separating the hibiscus flower seedlings from the mother plant at this time node makes it easier to survive after potting and transplanting.

In early spring, first dig out the robustly growing hibiscus flower mother plant with vigorous tillering, then use tools to divide it into multiple young seedlings. After disinfecting and sterilizing the wounds, they can be potted separately.

For the above three methods of propagating young seedlings, all are relatively suitable for the propagation of hibiscus flower, and everyone can choose a suitable propagation method according to their actual needs. As a household potted plant, the cutting method is generally used to breed potted hibiscus flower seedlings, because this method is simple and practical, with a high survival rate. Therefore, it is relatively worth promoting and applying.
