Cyclamen has the characteristics of peculiar flower shape, brilliant flower colors, and long flowering period, and is one of the famous Spring Festival pot flowers in China. If a pot of Cyclamen is placed indoors as the New Spring Festival arrives, it will surely fill the room with spring, and it is also an excellent gift for good friends. But during pot cultivation of Cyclamen, new tubers often grow at the tuber position of the plant, so how are Cyclamen tubers planted?

When using Cyclamen tubers for planting, the specific planting method often needs to be decided according to the season, because Cyclamen enters a dormant state in summer, so the dormant period must be avoided when planting tubers. Below, the editor will share with everyone the method for planting Cyclamen tubers.

I. Obtaining tubers

First, use a small bamboo stick to scrape away the soil adhering around the newly sprouted small corms, taking care not to damage the root system, then use a blade to cut the small tuber off the mother plant. Because a wound will be left during the process of separating the new tuber from the mother tuber, wood ash needs to be applied to the wound to prevent infection and invasion by pests and diseases. Finally, set the small tuber aside to dry for 2 days before planting.

II. Choosing a flower pot

The flower pot used for planting small Cyclamen tubers should not be too large; it usually needs to be somewhat small to avoid nutrients being too dispersed. Moreover, later when the small tuber sprouts and grows to a certain size, repotting will still be needed. Therefore, the pot chosen for the tuber should not be too large. Usually each time it is transplanted into a pot or repotted, a flower pot one size larger needs to be chosen.

III. Preparing soil

To prepare the soil for growing Cyclamen, you can use humus soil, leaf mold, furnace ash slag, etc., and originally add an appropriate amount of substances such as calcium carbonate, mix and stir them evenly before use. The culture soil made in this way is not only soft and fertile, but also has good air permeability and drainage, which is more conducive to the sprouting and growth of small tubers.

IV. Burying the tuber

Bury the small tuber that has been dried for 2 days into the culture soil, but generally only bury 2/3 of the tuber below the soil, while the other 1/3, including the bud point, should remain above the soil surface. This is more conducive to the sprouting and growth of the tuber, and the seedlings will not be slanted, bent, or messy. At the same time, the culture soil should also remain on the dry side and must not be moist, otherwise the tuber is prone to rot. Therefore, the method of burying the tuber must be scientific and reasonable.

V. Watering method

After burying the tuber, we must not rush to water, because watering tends to make the potting soil moist, and while the tuber wound has not yet completely healed, it is very easy for the corm to rot. Scientific watering is usually carried out after one week, and it must not be watered directly; generally water half-soaking along the inner edge of the pot, and do not water thoroughly.

It needs to be emphasized here that if a small tuber with roots is buried, normal watering is usually needed only after it has been potted, recovered, and adapted to the pot; while for watering after planting a small rootless tuber, normal watering is generally needed only after it has taken root and stably survived.
