A detailed guide to the cutting propagation method for baby's breath, teaching you to propagate it easily
Baby's breath flowers are small, but they bloom profusely. The flowering period is usually from June to August, but with good care and management, it can bloom all season long. Whether used as cut flowers or as potted plants, it often produces beautiful blooms. Moreover, propagating baby's breath is relatively simple; you can not only sow seeds to raise seedlings, but also use cuttings to propagate young plants. Today, the editor will share with you the cutting propagation method for baby's breath.

1. Cutting time
Since the most suitable daytime growing temperature for baby's breath is between 15-25°C and at night between 10-15°C, and spring is relatively suitable, cutting propagation is mostly carried out in spring. Of course, if the autumn temperature environment is suitable, it can also be done in autumn, but it is mostly done in spring.
If the temperature conditions are met, it is often not limited by the season. Generally, cuttings are taken from mid-March to early July in spring or from late September to early November in autumn, and the survival rate is relatively high.
2. Cutting process
Baby's breath is suitable for hardwood cutting propagation to raise potted young plants. First, cut mature branches from the previous year from the mother potted plant of baby's breath as cuttings, with a length of about 10-15 cm. Then insert them into the cutting bed, and they will generally take root in about 1 month.
However, when taking cuttings during the plum rain season, we can also use softwood cuttings. First, cut robust young branches of the current year with obvious apical dominance as cuttings, also with a length of about 10-15 cm. Then insert them into the cutting bed, and rooting can appear in about 2-3 weeks.
3. Key technical points
The cutting propagation method for baby's breath is also relatively simple, roughly the same as the cutting process for many other flowers and plants. However, to improve the survival rate of cuttings, we need to do a good job in the following aspects:
1. The cutting bed should be kept loose, breathable and permeable. Special peat soil can be used as the cutting bed, or perlite can be used as the cutting bed.
2. When making cuttings, the length should be kept above 10 cm, and at the same time the cuttings should carry 4-5 pairs of leaves.
3. Since the rooting rate of baby's breath after cutting is relatively low, in order to promote rooting and sprouting, it is recommended to dip some rooting powder on the base of the cuttings, or treat them with growth hormones to promote rapid rooting.
4. Because baby's breath has strong sprouting ability and will produce a large number of branches during the growing period, when taking cuttings, generally only 3-4 cuttings need to be inserted into one flower pot. Otherwise, the growth may become too dense later, leading to excessive competition for nutrients and crowding.
5. During the cutting propagation and seedling raising period, temperature and water management need to be done well. The temperature should be kept above 15℃, and at the same time, water spraying to maintain moisture should be done well. Usually rooting can appear in 3 weeks, and after rooting, after about 3 more weeks of cultivation, it can be transplanted at the right opportunity.
