How to mix nutrient solution for hydroponic spider plants? Detailed formula guide
The roots of the spider plant are not only pure white but also very thick and strong, which makes them very ornamental when grown hydroponically. So a hydroponic spider plant can be enjoyed for its leaves, its roots, and even has a chance to bloom. Therefore, when growing spider plants hydroponically, we recommend choosing a transparent glass container. This is mainly to make it easy to admire the beautiful white roots.

But if you want to grow a hydroponic spider plant well, nutrient solution is often an important part that cannot be ignored. This is because hydroponic growing is different from soil growing. With soil-grown spider plants, you can top-dress fertilizer in time when nutrients are lacking, and water and fertilizer management is also relatively easy. But with hydroponics, you can often only use nutrient solution to supplement nutrients for the spider plant to ensure it maintains good growth. So how do you mix nutrient solution for a hydroponic spider plant?
To mix a high-quality nutrient solution, after many experiments the editor finally determined a formula for a nutrient solution that is very suitable for hydroponic spider plants, and now I am sharing it with everyone. I hope everyone can draw inferences from this formula and develop a nutrient solution formula that suits their own needs. The formula is as follows:
1.8 grams calcium nitrate, 0.62 grams monopotassium phosphate, 0.187 grams ammonium sulfate, 0.0278 grams ferrous phosphate, 0.62 grams potassium chloride, 0.54 grams magnesium sulfate, then mix and stir them well and dissolve in clean water. This formula involves quite a few nutrient elements, and after being diluted with water, it can provide sufficient nutrients for hydroponic spider plants. After use, it was found that during the process of growing spider plants, the effect was even better than that of nutrient solutions bought on the market.
When using nutrient solution, it generally needs to be replaced regularly. In the early stage of hydroponic spider plant growing, the nutrient solution can be replaced once every 3-5 days, and once the hydroponic spider plant is growing stably, the nutrient solution can be replaced about once a week. This can keep the water clean, which is also more beneficial to the growth of the spider plant. Of course, if necessary, while replacing the nutrient solution, we can also rinse the roots of the spider plant and the inner wall of the bottle to prevent bacteria from breeding.
However, the dissolved oxygen content in hydroponic nutrient solution is often relatively low, which can easily cause the roots of the spider plant to die from lack of oxygen, and this is fatal to a hydroponic spider plant. So we need to change the water frequently, and if necessary, we can also add an oxygen supply device to the water to increase the dissolved oxygen content in the nutrient solution. But in general there is no need for such elaborate measures; usually regular replacement of the nutrient solution and proper cleaning are enough.
