What flowers and plants are suitable for sowing in summer
Many friends like to grow some flowers and plants in pots at home, which can not only decorate and beautify the environment, but also be enjoyed for viewing. Some flowers and plants even help purify indoor air! Summer often has high temperatures and hot weather, creating a rather harsh environment, so it is not suitable for sowing and propagating potted seedlings. However, as it turns out, some flowers and plants can actually be sown in summer. So, what flowers and plants are suitable for sowing in summer?

Although the high-temperature environment of summer is rather harsh, and most flowers and plants are not suitable for sowing and propagation during this time, some flowers and plants are themselves relatively heat-tolerant and can withstand high temperatures, so even when sown in the hot summer, they can still produce robust seedlings. Flowers and plants such as petunia, cockscomb, and blanket flower are typical examples. Of course, flowers suitable for summer sowing are not limited to these.
1. Petunia
Petunia is a perennial herbaceous plant that likes a warm growing environment with ample light. Although its most suitable growing temperature is 13°C-18°C, it can also tolerate high temperatures above 35°C in summer. Because of its strong heat tolerance, it can grow well in summer too. However, if propagating by sowing, the ambient temperature generally needs to be kept at 20-25°C to ensure the seeds germinate smoothly and to increase the germination rate. As long as the environment is suitable, germination usually occurs about 10 days after sowing. The suitable growing temperature can be kept between 10°C-30°C.
2. Cockscomb
Compared with petunia, cockscomb is an annual herbaceous flowering plant, originally typically blooming in summer and autumn, and its flower colors are also very vivid, giving it extremely high ornamental value. During its growing period, this flower likes high temperatures and full sunlight, is drought-tolerant but not moisture-tolerant, so the potting soil should preferably be kept on the dry side. When propagating by sowing, it is generally done in April-May, and an ambient temperature kept between 20°C-25°C is more suitable, so it is also very suitable for summer sowing and propagation. If the growing conditions are met, seedlings can usually emerge smoothly in 7-10 days, and when the seedlings grow to a height of 5-6 cm, they can be transplanted with soil into pots for final planting.
3. Blanket flower
Like cockscomb, blanket flower is an annual herbaceous plant. It is likewise relatively drought-tolerant and heat-tolerant, and even has fairly strong cold tolerance, while also liking light. Based on its growth habits, it can be judged that this plant is relatively suitable for sowing and propagation in summer. However, during sowing and propagation, the seedbed generally needs to be covered with plastic film to retain moisture, and once the seedlings emerge, the film can be removed. But watering requires care, since it is summer after all, and it is generally done in the early morning and evening when temperatures are relatively lower. When the seedlings have produced more than 3 leaves, they can be transplanted into pots for final planting at the appropriate time.
