Agastache rugosa, a perennial herbaceous plant, gets its name because the whole plant gives off a pleasant fragrance. But Agastache rugosa can be eaten as a wild vegetable and also used as medicine; its strong practical value and medicinal effects have won it many admirers, who have taken to growing it as a household potted plant. But the planting of Agastache rugosa requires getting the timing right, especially for propagation by sowing, otherwise it will not only easily affect its growth but also affect the yield. So, when is Agastache rugosa sown?

For growing Agastache rugosa, sowing can be used to raise seedlings, especially when growing it as a potted plant, since we must first obtain strong potted seedlings. And Agastache rugosa can be sown either in spring or in autumn. For the northern regions, where temperatures in spring and autumn are relatively low, spring sowing is generally used; for the relatively warmer southern regions, autumn sowing is generally used.

I. Spring sowing

The best time for spring sowing of Agastache rugosa is usually from late March to early to mid-April each year. After preparing the seedbed, open shallow furrows at a row spacing of about 25-30 cm, with a furrow depth of about 1-1.5 cm. Then mix the seeds with sand, scatter them evenly into the shallow furrows, and cover with soil about 1 cm thick. Note that if the soil is too dry, water it thoroughly, and also pay attention to watering to keep it moist at ordinary times.

II. Autumn sowing

The autumn sowing time for Agastache rugosa seeds is generally during September-October in autumn. Likewise, after the seedling bed is tidied up, open furrows of about 30 cm. But unlike spring sowing, the furrows for autumn sowing must be much deeper, with a depth of 3.6 cm being suitable, and relatively larger furrows should be opened, while the bottom of the furrows should be leveled. Then sow, with the rest of the operation the same as for spring sowing.

Actually, if you want to pin down which month to sow Agastache rugosa seeds, it is not very strict. For spring sowing, the period from February to May is fine, and for autumn sowing, August to October is also acceptable; as long as the conditions for seed germination and sprouting can be met, it is fine. So, during the sowing and propagation of Agastache rugosa, what do we need to prepare?

1. First, we need to prepare high-quality seeds for sowing.

2. Make a seedling bed with good drainage, and also require an environment that can receive sufficient light.

3. Before sowing, the seedling bed needs to be tended in advance, such as weeding, watering, fertilizing and other procedures.

4. When sowing, pay attention to the depth at which the seeds are buried in the soil, that is, the depth of the soil covering after sowing; generally keeping it at about 2-3 cm is enough, not too shallow and not too deep.
