Placing a potted money tree indoors as a foliage plant combines greening, beautifying and purifying in one, with very high practical value and a very wide range of uses. Moreover, the money tree's propagation method is also relatively simple, generally using cuttings to breed. However, cuttings can be done either in soil or in water, and even by leaf cuttings. It is just that leaf cuttings are generally suitable for succulents, and the money tree's leaf cuttings are not the same process as those of succulents. Strictly speaking, the money tree's leaf cuttings also count as soil cuttings.

Since the money tree's leaf cuttings also count as soil cuttings, the cutting method must necessarily be the same as for soil cuttings, that is, inserting its leaves into the cutting bed, rather than like succulent leaf cuttings where you simply lay the leaves on the medium, or even do without medium. It should be noted that the money tree's leaf cuttings usually need to include the leaf stalk, and the stem node connected to the leaf stalk should also be retained, then insert the stem node together with the leaf stalk into the substrate. So this process is actually ordinary cuttings, not leaf cuttings in the true sense. But sometimes we find that during leaf cuttings the money tree encounters the phenomenon of leaves turning yellow. What is going on?

In fact, during the money tree's leaf cuttings, as the leaf base begins to take root and sprout, especially after growing tubers, it will consume a small amount of nutrients stored in the leaves. But more of it consumes nutrients in the soil, and even if the leaves show yellowing, it is relatively slight. Moreover, the yellowing parts of the leaves are basically at the lower end of the leaf near the base. This shares similarities with succulent leaf cuttings, and also differs. If the yellowing of the leaves is relatively severe, then we need to pay attention, as it is generally a problem with growth.

The phenomenon of yellowing leaves in young money tree plants from leaf cuttings is mainly caused by improper light and water-fertilizer management. After all, the root system of a money tree at the seedling stage is still very tender and weak, and if the growing environment becomes unsuitable, growth problems are easily caused. Especially when its root system is damaged, the phenomenon of poor growth is often more severe, mainly reflected through the state of the leaves. So we generally need to strengthen inspection and management from the aspects of light and water-fertilizer.

During the money tree's leaf cuttings, direct sunlight usually needs to be shaded, and the money tree itself is also tolerant of semi-shade. If direct sunlight is provided too early, since its root system is still shallow and also very tender, and the leaves are large, yellowing of the leaves often occurs due to dehydration. And if too much water is given or the fertilizer concentration is too high, it often damages its tender root system; after the root system is damaged, it cannot normally transport nutrients and water to the leaves, so naturally the leaves will show a withered-yellow appearance.
