Place the potted pothos in a relatively shady spot on the balcony for care. Thanks to the moisture from rain and dew, the plant often grows very lush and vibrant. It can be seen that pothos likes a growing environment with good ventilation, shade, and rain moisture. In fact, pothos is an evergreen plant that prefers shade and acidic growing conditions, so besides preparing a slightly acidic growing environment for it, we also need to appropriately apply organic nutrient solution. After diluting and watering, it can ensure that the pothos maintains robust growth.

Plant nutrient solutions often contain large amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium elements as well as various trace elements, which can provide sufficient nutrients for the growth of pothos. If a small amount of nutrient solution is appropriately applied weekly, it can often make the pothos full of vitality and maintain vigorous growth. Pothos is also a vine plant, and under strong growth, keeping it climbing up the wall is often not difficult. To supplement the pothos with nutrient solution, besides buying it, we can also try to prepare it ourselves. Below, the editor will share with you a hydroponic pothos nutrient solution recipe -- using iron nails and citric acid for preparation.

Pothos is an acid-loving evergreen plant, so we can prepare a slightly acidic nutrient solution for it. You can find a bottle, then pour an appropriate amount of clean water into it, then put in a rusty iron nail, then add a small amount of citric acid, and finally cover the bottle mouth tightly with a lid and shake well. After that, place the bottle in a cool place and let it sit for about 10 days. When the mixed liquid in the bottle becomes cloudy, we can pour it out and use it as nutrient solution for the pothos.

Generally, we can keep adding a few drops of nutrient solution when changing the water each week. If using it to water the pothos, it can be diluted at a ratio of 1:20, shaken well, and then poured into the flower pot. But when watering, generally pour in a circle along the inner wall of the pot to avoid being too close to the roots and causing unnecessary damage to the root system. However, when used as nutrient solution in hydroponic pothos, this is often not a concern. We only need to add a small few drops when changing the water.

Practice has proven that a rusty iron nail can release iron elements in water, and citric acid can make neutral water become slightly acidic. By adding this mixture as nutrient solution to the hydroponic pothos environment, the plant can absorb iron elements more fully. And appropriately taking in iron elements can effectively prevent hydroponic pothos from developing yellow leaves, and the pothos will grow even more lush and green.
