Pothos grows very quickly, relying mainly on its powerful root system. Even in a hydroponic state, pothos often has a massive root system. As the plant keeps growing, the roots and stems also become more numerous and denser. During normal metabolism, quite a few old roots are bound to form. If we do not trim the roots in time, the absorption capacity of the pothos root system will be reduced. So, can the roots and stems of hydroponic pothos be cut?

Scientifically trimming and cutting the roots of hydroponic pothos can not only stimulate the plant to sprout new roots, thereby keeping its root system strong at all times, ensuring that nutrients can always be effectively transported to the plant body, and providing a guarantee for the plant to maintain a good growth state. At the same time, cutting off the old, weak and thin roots can also improve the root's breathing capacity and reduce the burden on the roots themselves. So, how should the roots and stems of hydroponic pothos be cut?

Generally, when growing pothos hydroponically, we should pay more attention to observing its growth rate. If the growth rate is far faster than normal and the roots and stems are very dense, then we need to cut off the stems about 20 cm above the hydroponic container. At the same time, cut off the old, weak and thin roots and trim the roots flat. This can improve the absorption capacity of the roots, and the roots and stems can also grow stronger.

In particular, when rotten roots appear in the container, they must be cut off in time, then soaked in a disinfectant solution for about 5-10 minutes to sterilize and disinfect. After replacing it with clean water, insert it back into the water for cultivation. Generally, it is more appropriate to change the water once every 3-5 days, and as pothos keeps growing, its demand for nutrients will also increase, so a few drops of nutrient solution can be added when changing the water to supplement nutrients.

And if the pothos in the container grows roots and stems that are too long, they also need to be appropriately shortened and trimmed, but be careful to retain more aerial roots. This is mainly because after cutting the roots, new roots can still grow again through the aerial roots, so the absorption capacity of the root system will not be reduced. The leggy growth of the root system of hydroponic pothos is often caused by an environment that is too shady and lacks light, so at the same time we also need to improve the environment and place the plant in a bright place for care, to avoid the root system becoming leggy again.

After completing the cutting treatment, it is also necessary to do a good job in the care and management of the hydroponic pothos. First of all, the environment should remain well ventilated, and the position should be bright, able to fully receive scattered light, and avoid direct sunlight, especially intense sunlight exposure. During this period, attention should also be paid to changing the water for the pothos; it is recommended to use purified water for cultivation. And when changing the water, the mucus, impurities and so on adhering to the roots and stems and the inner wall of the container should be cleaned off as well.
