When is the most suitable time to propagate bougainvillea by cuttings
Potted bougainvillea can be propagated into young plants through cuttings, and bougainvillea is very easy to root from cuttings. As long as we can master the right cutting time and carry out cuttings in the suitable season, generally inserting the cut branches into the soil will allow them to survive. However, because bougainvillea varieties differ, some varieties require us to put in a bit more effort if we want the cuttings to survive.

Although for common bougainvillea varieties, cuttings root relatively easily, and with just a little careful care, potted young plants can be easily obtained. But in order to improve the success rate of cuttings, the cutting time should be chosen as well as possible. So, when is the most suitable time to take bougainvillea cuttings?
Bougainvillea cuttings can generally be taken in spring and autumn, but cuttings are often taken in spring, when the survival results are best and the cutting success rate is highest. If taking cuttings in spring, generally March to June is suitable. Taking the Hangzhou area as an example, cuttings are mostly best taken during May to June, and both the cutting success rate and the growth results of the young plants are often relatively good.
There are many advantages to taking bougainvillea cuttings in spring, because in spring the branches on the mother bougainvillea plant grow very vigorously, and bougainvillea also has relatively strong vitality. In a suitable climate environment, the soil moisture and temperature are more suitable for plant growth and reproduction. But if in the northern regions of our country, due to the influence of temperature, cuttings often have much higher requirements for the growing environment.
In the northern regions of our country, the indoor temperature is generally required to remain above 20°C before cuttings can be taken, because the most suitable temperature for bougainvillea growth is best kept at 20℃-25℃. Moreover, in indoor environments in northern regions, the air is relatively dry and warm. As long as the cutting method is correct, the cuttings are also relatively easy to root.
However, although bougainvillea cuttings root relatively easily, care and management work still needs to be done well, especially when taking cuttings in the northern regions of our country, where more careful tending is even more necessary. If all goes smoothly, after cutting they generally take 3-4 weeks to root. And after rooting and sprouting, light is very important. As long as we can provide sufficient light, along with suitable temperature and sufficient water, the young plants will easily grow strong.
