The money tree, as its name suggests, carries the meaning of making a fortune, so people usually believe it symbolizes "wealth rolling in from all directions." Combined with its high ornamental value, this plant is deeply loved by gardening enthusiasts. In addition, the money tree is shade-tolerant and highly adaptable to its environment, so it is relatively easy to grow.

Under normal conditions, whether it is given full sun, partial sun or a semi-shaded growing environment, it will basically not suffer from poor growth. The only thing to note is that when providing full sun, you should avoid exposing it to harsh sunlight during the hot summer conditions, otherwise the plant can easily get scorched.

For an elegant plant like the money tree, there are quite a few enthusiasts who want to grow it as a potted plant, but propagating small potted seedlings is the first problem everyone needs to solve. Money trees can generally be propagated into seedlings through sowing, cuttings, grafting and other methods. However, considering the convenience of home cultivation, the cutting method is usually adopted. So how do you propagate a money tree from cuttings?

For money tree cuttings, you can either first induce rooting in water and then plant them in soil, or directly insert them into vermiculite to root and then transplant them into a flower pot. Below, the editor will share with you the two methods for money tree cuttings: water-induced rooting followed by soil planting, and direct rooting followed by transplanting.

I. Water-induced rooting

First, use sterilized scissors to cut a healthy, semi-lignified branch of the current year from the money tree as the cutting for water propagation, with a length of about 10 cm being ideal. It is also recommended to keep only the tender leaves at the top and two old leaves on the cutting, and remove all the other leaves.

Next, place the prepared cutting directly into a container filled with clean water, changing the water once every 3 days during this period. Also, do not add any nutrient solution or fertilizer to the container during water propagation; just cultivate it in clean water.

II. Cutting in vermiculite

If you choose to root the cutting in vermiculite, we can simply insert the prepared cutting directly into the vermiculite. Of course, we can also use river sand to achieve this. Note that to promote rooting, we can apply some rooting hormone to the wound at the base of the cutting, then insert it into the vermiculite, with an insertion depth of about 3 cm being ideal.

After completing the cutting, water it thoroughly once in time to ensure the vermiculite has the moisture needed for the cutting to grow, then place it in a cool, ventilated spot for care. If all goes well, the cutting can root within at most one month. Once the cutting has rooted and survived, we can choose an appropriate time to pot the cutting seedling and transplant it into a flower pot for management.

But no matter which method is used to grow the cutting seedling, after potting, it should be placed in a cool, ventilated spot for at least 1 week or more to help the plant smoothly recover and adjust to the pot. Once the plant's root system returns to normal growth and new buds and leaves begin to sprout, we can manage it according to normal care methods.
