Yang-style penjing is a distinctive craft of Yangzhou.

  Yang-style penjing is centered on Yangzhou and includes the northern Jiangsu counties and cities of Taizhou, Taixing, Tai County, Xinghua, Gaoyou, Dongtai, Yancheng, Baoying and others; it is a school of penjing art named after Yangzhou.

  Yang-style penjing is one of the five major schools in the country, and its technique of making three bends in one cun (one cun is 3.3. m) can be said to be unmatched in the world.

  In order to better protect this special set of penjing-making techniques, the Yangzhou Penjing Museum has applied to the relevant authorities for national-level intangible cultural heritage status and has been accepted.

  Yang-style penjing has a long history, and the key to its distinctive form, with clear layers and a strict, steady structure, lies in its exquisite pruning and binding techniques.

  It is understood that Yang-style penjing, precisely by virtue of this rigorous set of production techniques, has repeatedly won gold and silver at national penjing grand prize competitions, and in the early 1980s of the last century it was also designated as one of the five major penjing schools in the country.
