Ten Methods for Controlling Green Mold Disease in Edible Fungi

Green mold (Trichoderma) disease is a major enemy in edible fungi cultivation. It mainly germinates on mushroom blocks that have not yet been colonized by mycelium, on materials that have not been thoroughly sterilized, and on dead mushrooms that have not been removed, and it thrives in acidic and relatively humid environments. Its spores spread quickly through the air and multiply rapidly; if not treated promptly, the losses are severe. Once green colonies appear, the following 10 methods can be used for timely control and treatment.

1. Lower the temperature and humidity of the mushroom house, increase ventilation, and cover and press the moldy spots with plant ash to prevent mold spores from flying up and spreading.

2. First fumigate the room with a 3% Lysol solution or 3% formaldehyde solution, then wash the moldy spots with a 1% potassium permanganate solution.

3. Sprinkle potassium permanganate granules on the moldy spots, then spray water around the outer edge of the mold.

4. Take 9 parts quicklime, 1 part carbendazim, and an appropriate amount of water, and pour and brush the mixture onto the moldy spots.

5. Soak the mold with 5% lime water; after the mold disappears, drain off the lime water and add fresh material.

6. Use a 1:200 dilution of kemeiling solution to inject the green mold inside the bags or brush the green mold on the bed surface.

7. Spray a 1:800 dilution of benomyl solution on the moldy spots of the bags or beds.

8. Brush the moldy spots with 95% alcohol or kerosene, ignite and burn them, then dig them out and fill in fresh material.

9. Spray the moldy spots with a 3% Lysol solution, wipe the tools clean after use, then dig out the mold; wipe the tools clean each time after digging once, and after removal fill in fresh culture material and spawn. This method can completely cure late-stage mold.

10. When cultivating with raw materials, use a 1300-fold dilution of thiabendazole to thoroughly control and eradicate mold growth.
