Many friends who grow hibiscus have reported that sometimes the hibiscus they bought develops yellow leaves for no apparent reason. What causes this?

Why do hibiscus leaves turn yellow and drop?

  1. Potted hibiscus tends to drop buds, which is caused by improper care leading to an imbalance in the plant's internal nutrient supply. Hibiscus is a strongly sun-loving flower that thrives in full sunlight. If kept in deep shade for a long time with insufficient light, and at the same time watered too much so the potting soil stays wet, root rot will occur, leading to leaf drop and bud drop.

  2. The pot used for hibiscus should not be too large. Generally, a 15 cm diameter clay pot is used, and the pot size is increased year by year. Use sandy loam rich in organic matter as potting soil, mixed with 10% decomposed cake fertilizer or dry manure. For newly planted seedlings, firm the soil, water thoroughly, and shade them for a few days first. After the plants recover from transplanting, move them to a spot with ample sunlight for growing on, which helps them survive. Pay attention to watering moderately at ordinary times; too much moisture affects flowering.

  3. In summer, during high temperatures, water in the morning and evening, and spray water on the leaves. Apply cake fertilizer liquid once a week to ensure abundant flowering.

  4. Watering too frequently, potting soil that is too dry, lack of sunlight, or pests and diseases. Hibiscus likes water but is not tolerant of waterlogging, and it fears drought. Whether waterlogged or drought-stressed, the leaves will turn yellow and there will also be falling leaves.
