How to care for red plum bonsai in winter? These care tips you need to master
Winter has arrived, and the red plum blossoms have begun to bloom one after another. In this season, the blooming red plum is undoubtedly a beautiful sight. So, how should red plum bonsai be cared for in winter?
The red plum is a tree species with a relatively long lifespan, and it not only likes abundant sunlight but also likes open areas with good ventilation. Although the red plum blooms in winter and has a certain drought tolerance, it prefers a warm climate environment. Red plums that are in their flowering period are especially sensitive to climate changes.
In winter, red plum bonsai stands proudly and displays brilliant flowers at the same time. To keep it looking its best, care and management should be strengthened in winter.
The red plum is not very demanding about its potting soil, and it can maintain good growth even in gravelly clay or loam. Winter care and management mainly involve doing a good job with temperature and water and fertilizer management.
Usually, the red plum grows robustly in a temperature environment between 18°C and 25°C. Although the red plum has a certain drought tolerance, even in winter the ambient temperature should be kept above -1°C as much as possible. In the cold northern regions, it is mostly used for potted plants or made into bonsai; in the relatively warm southern regions, it can also be planted in courtyards to beautify the environment.
After entering winter, in order to avoid freezing injury to the red plum tree, watering should be strictly controlled. Normally, it is only necessary to keep the potting soil slightly moist; if the temperature is too low, consider stopping watering completely.
In addition, because the red plum is relatively tolerant of poor soil, it generally does not need fertilizing after entering winter. Otherwise, fertilizing the tree in an overly cold climate environment can easily cause growth problems.
