What to do about small flying insects in flower pots? A few tricks to wipe them out completely
Everyone who loves growing flowers and plants in pots wants their greenery to keep growing well and looking good, but spring has already arrived, and not only are plants growing well, flies and mosquitoes are also more active. If potted plants are plagued by small flying insects, it not only easily affects the plants' growth, it is also disgusting. So what should you do about small flying insects in flower pots?

First we need to find what is attracting the small flying insects, and only then can we take countermeasures to stop further infestation. But at the same time we also need to take insect-killing measures promptly until the problem is completely eradicated, so that the potted flowers and plants can be kept in good growing condition and looking their best.
Small flying insects infesting flower pots are usually caused by soil that is too wet, high air humidity and poor ventilation, especially after the temperature warms up, which creates a warm, humid, comfortable environment for mosquitoes and insects, so they come to infest. Whether plants are grown in water or in soil, once they are plagued by small flying insects it is very off-putting; it not only affects how the potted plant looks, it can also harm the plant, and more importantly it easily brings pathogens indoors and affects your health.
In this situation, we first need to promptly improve the current warm, humid environment. Start by moving the flower pot close to a windowsill to boost light and improve ventilation, so that excess water in the pot and in the air can escape. This can greatly reduce or suppress the infestation of small flying insects. But since the potted plants are already infested with insects, we still need to promptly take scientific control measures to clear out the insects that have bred. Below, the editor has listed a few good methods to share with everyone:
Method one:
Cut a few smoked cigarette butts, then soak them in water. After a while, use the solution in which the cigarette butts were soaked to water the potted plant. This will quickly drive off these small flying insects. Usually about 10 waste cigarette butts to 1 bottle of mineral water is enough.
Method two:
Light a mosquito coil and place it in the flower pot, then cover the pot, the mosquito coil and the plant together with a large plastic bag. Usually after 1 hour the insects will be killed.
Method three:
Besides the two methods above, we can also use lime or insecticide spray to kill them. However, although spraying chemicals works better, it often affects the indoor environment, so if necessary, it is usually done outdoors.
Method four:
Take a small amount of laundry detergent, dissolve it in water and add a drop of clear oil, then spray it directly on the insects on the potted plant; originally this is often a good approach too.
Method five:
You can take Sichuan pepper and add water, heat it in a pot until it boils, then simmer it into a liquid medicine for spraying. However, this approach often brings a strong pungent smell, so it is usually best done outdoors.
Method six:
If you feel that the methods above have a strong smell during use and easily spoil the indoor air, then we can buy some sticky insect boards and place them around the flower pot, which can also trap the mosquitoes and insects flying back and forth and, to a certain extent, kill the small flying insects.
But no matter which method is used to kill the small flying insects, at the same time you need to improve the plant's growing environment, mainly by ensuring smooth ventilation and appropriately increasing light.
