How to care for cyclamen during the flowering period? These precautions must be kept in mind
When a cyclamen blooms, its upright petals look like rabbit ears, and the whole flower resembles a monk's hat, which is why it is also called rabbit's ear flower and monk's hat flower. Moreover, the flowering period of the cyclamen is long-lasting, usually blooming from December of the previous year to May of the following year, with extremely high ornamental value. So, many people grow it as a household potted plant because of its gorgeous blooms and long ornamental period.

The cyclamen is indeed a typical flowering plant. If you want it to display its ornamental value to the fullest, the care and management work during the flowering period must be done well. So, how do you care for a cyclamen during its flowering period? And what precautions are there during care and management? Scientific and reasonable care and management measures are the prerequisite for ensuring that potted cyclamen blooms brilliantly. The care and management work and precautions are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Sufficient light
The cyclamen relatively likes light. Apart from the seedling growth stage and summer, when strong direct light needs to be avoided, it generally needs to be given sufficient light at ordinary times, so when viewing the flowers you need to place it in a spot with ample light. Only when the potted cyclamen receives more sufficient light during the flowering period will its blooms be more delicate and brilliant, and its ornamental value higher.
However, because the leaves and petals of the cyclamen are relatively large, especially when it is growing well, its leaves overlap and cross each other, and under this mutual shading they will inevitably block a large amount of light, thereby affecting the sprouting of new leaves and flower bud formation. In view of this situation, we usually need to pull the leaves at the center of the plant outward or apart, and can even thin out and prune away the leaves that seriously block the light, in order to promote flowering.
2. Suitable temperature
If you want a potted cyclamen to show off its beautiful figure and bloom with gorgeous flowers on schedule, the temperature environment must be suitable. The cyclamen usually begins to bloom in deep winter, and relatively speaking, if the temperature is too low, it will affect flowering to varying degrees, or even inhibit flowering. Usually when the growing environment temperature is below 5 or 6°C, the plant will find it very hard to bloom, so temperature regulation during the flowering period is very important and is one of the prerequisites for ensuring smooth flowering.
But at the same time, for a cyclamen in the flowering period, the ambient temperature must not be too high either. If the ambient temperature is too high, it often causes the flowers to wither prematurely, thereby shortening the flowering period and the viewing time. Usually, when the room temperature environment is kept between 15-20°C, it can well promote the growth of the cyclamen and the formation and differentiation of flower buds. Moreover, the temperature during the flowering period must not be lower than 10°C, so as to ensure normal flowering.
3. Scientific moisture retention
A suitable humidity environment is very important for promoting the growth of potted cyclamen, forming flower buds and promoting flower bud differentiation. The cyclamen can often only bloom normally in a warm, moist care environment, especially with suitable air humidity. In order to ensure that the plant blooms normally, the humidity in the air environment usually needs to be adjusted to between 70%-75%.
Scientific moisture retention is one of the important conditions for promoting cyclamen flowering, so we need to adopt the practice of frequently spraying water in the environment around the plant to increase air humidity. If necessary, we can also put a bag over the pot at night, which not only achieves a moisture-retaining effect but also plays a role in keeping it warm.
4. Timely watering
After the cyclamen enters the flowering period, since flowering consumes a large amount of water, its demand for water is relatively great, and a lack of water in the pot must be avoided, so timely watering is another important condition for ensuring normal flowering. Because if there is a water shortage during the flowering period, the cyclamen's flower stems will lean over and lie down due to water loss, and even the leaves will become wilted and yellow due to dehydration, which not only affects flowering but also affects the ornamental value.
In this situation, although watering immediately can restore the plant to a relatively good state, some leaves will still turn yellow, and phenomena such as delayed flowering and bent flower stalks will appear, which will likewise greatly reduce the ornamental value. Therefore, a potted cyclamen in the flowering period must not lack water, and watering should be timely without being excessive.
