Pothos is one of the most popular green plants for household pots. Although it is relatively easy to grow, it still needs our care, since only with effort comes reward. Especially after growing it for 1-2 years, it needs to be repotted in time, because Pothos has strong root sprouting ability. Under suitable growing conditions, its roots will soon fill the pot. Therefore, timely repotting is very important, and it is the prerequisite for ensuring its continued good growth later on.

However, many novice growers find that their Pothos wilts not long after repotting, and sometimes it even wilts more severely day by day. Wilting is one of the most common phenomena during repotting. It may be normal, but it may also be abnormal. The normal phenomenon is mainly because, in the new pot soil environment, the plant's roots have not yet recovered their normal absorption and growth functions. When water and nutrients are not supplied in time, wilting occurs. So, will a Pothos die after wilting following repotting?

If there is no sign of recovery for a long time after repotting, then this wilting phenomenon is abnormal. We need to seriously reflect on whether the repotting method was correct during the operation, and also consider whether the conditions for repotting were met, and even whether the placement after repotting was scientific, and so on. By reflecting on these aspects, it should not be difficult to find the real cause.

However, in general, when Pothos wilts after repotting and shows no sign of returning to normal growth for a long time, although there may be many causes, we should always return to the root system. If the roots are damaged and cannot recover their normal absorption capacity, then the plant cannot absorb nutrients and water through the roots, and it is unavoidable that the plant will show wilting.

If the roots are severely damaged during repotting, the plant will show long-term wilting, and it may get worse day by day, with the wilted area gradually expanding. If rescue is not timely, it is entirely possible for it to die. This is mainly shown in improper repotting methods: either the root pruning before potting was too severe and has already caused fundamental damage; or too much watering after potting caused root suffocation in the pot, leading to root rot; or the plant was exposed to strong direct light after repotting, causing severe dehydration while the roots had not yet absorbed water normally.

Of course, apart from the above situations that may cause Pothos wilting and possibly death, if the potting process and care management are very scientific and reasonable, then usually there will not be a long-term failure to resume growth after repotting. A slight wilting after potting is normal. After all, while the plant is adapting to the new environment, the roots cannot immediately recover their normal absorption and growth capacity, and the plant is still in a very fragile state. However, it can usually recover from transplant shock after 1 week and resume normal growth, so even if the plant wilts, it will not die.
