Carnations not only have a rich fragrance but also a long flowering period. On the flower market, whether as a single stem standing alone or made into a bouquet, they often deeply attract people's attention. Moreover, carnations have a unique and beautiful symbolic meaning, often becoming one of the best-selling flowering plants around Mother's Day.

Carnation flowers are large and gorgeous. Whether used as cut flower material or grown as potted plants for ornamental viewing, they have extremely high ornamental value. However, when grown as potted plants, the post-flowering care and management work is very important, because this not only affects whether the plant can quickly recover its growth after flowering, but also affects the flowering effect of the next round. So, how should carnations be cared for after flowering?

After carnations finish flowering, the first thing we need to do is promptly remove the spent flowers and cut off the flower stems to avoid futile consumption of nutrients. Taking correct pruning measures on carnation plants can stimulate or force the plants to bloom quickly. If a carnation is flowering for the first time, when pruning the flower branches after flowering, each flower branch needs to retain 2 buds. This is very important for later sprouting and growth and for successfully flowering again.

In the post-flowering care and management of carnations, in addition to pruning, water and fertilizer management also need to be strengthened. After all, in order to bloom during the flowering period, carnations consume a large amount of nutrients and urgently need nutrient supplementation to restore their growth. At the same time, light also needs to be increased to strengthen photosynthesis and accelerate the plant's rapid recovery. The subsequent topdressing is also very important.

After carnations finish flowering, applying some balanced compound fertilizer as topdressing is sufficient. Drop 5-6 granules into water at one time, dissolve them completely, shake well, and pour the solution into the potting soil. Then water thoroughly once more so that the residual fertilizer solution is fully dissolved and absorbed. If there is a tray under the flower pot, this method can be used once a week to apply fertilizer water, and at ordinary times just keep watering with clear water.
