Asparagus fern is deeply loved by people for its elegant temperament and graceful appearance. Keeping it as a potted plant indoors, whether for viewing, decorating the environment, or even purifying the air, often achieves very good results. So asparagus fern is not exclusively for scholars and refined gentlemen; nowadays more and more household growers are joining the ranks of asparagus fern keepers.

However, asparagus fern can be grown not only in soil but also in water, and as long as the care and management methods are scientific, it can also achieve good results in water culture. The only thing is that for water-grown asparagus fern, you cannot take the approach of directly cutting branches from a soil-cultured potted plant and inserting them into water, because water-cultured asparagus fern generally cannot survive without roots. So how do you convert asparagus fern from soil culture to water culture?

First we need to understand that when converting asparagus fern from soil culture to water culture, it needs to be transplanted with roots, otherwise the asparagus fern in water culture mode cannot survive. Below, let us take a look at how asparagus fern is converted from soil culture to water culture!

  1. First select a pot of vigorously growing, well-developed asparagus fern as the transplant subject. Generally, the roots of the selected asparagus fern are required to have young buds, because such asparagus fern tends to survive and sprout more easily after water culture.

  2. Remove the prepared potted asparagus fern from its original pot, then remove the soil clinging to the roots and rinse the root system clean with clear water. At the same time, be careful to protect the roots as much as possible, cut off the old, weak, diseased and damaged roots, and then carry out sterilization and disinfection treatment.

  3. Prepare a transparent glass container with a relatively large diameter, then spread a layer of expanded clay pebbles on the bottom, and place the asparagus fern whose roots have been cleaned and treated on the expanded clay pebbles, letting the roots remain freely extended. Then use expanded clay pebbles to fill the container.

  4. In order to give the container the humidity needed for the asparagus fern to grow, we also need to pour a small amount of water onto the expanded clay pebbles in the container, ensuring the pebbles can be soaked by the water, but at the same time not pouring too much water, especially avoiding the water line rising above the roots.

  5. After completing the above operations, place the new asparagus fern pot with its water culture environment set up in a well-ventilated, sunny spot indoors, preferably near a windowsill or window, to ensure the plant can fully receive scattered light.

  6. During water culture, pay attention to controlling the ambient temperature and scientifically maintaining humidity; you can often spray leaf water on the plant. This completes the soil-to-water conversion growing mode for asparagus fern.
