Causes of Root Rot in the Money Tree and How to Remedy It
The money tree not only absorbs carbon dioxide in a room but also releases oxygen, making your space fresher, so placing it in the living room is very beneficial. But some flower lovers find that when they buy a money tree, the plant is growing very vigorously, while others encounter the phenomenon of root rot in the money tree, so how should we deal with it?

To remedy a money tree with root rot, we first need to understand why potted money trees develop root rot. So why does the money tree develop root rot? Let's take a look at the causes and remedies below!
1. Overwatering
Practice has shown that the primary cause of root rot in the money tree is improper watering. Although the money tree likes a moist potting soil environment, it is not tolerant of water either. If watered excessively, water will accumulate in the pot and affect the respiration of the roots, and then a large number of pathogens will be produced, causing root rot. At this point, we need to control watering in time. If the root rot is relatively severe, we need to repot it and change the soil immediately.
2. Overfertilizing
If we usually fertilize a potted money tree with too high a concentration, or too frequently, it will lead to excess nutrients for the root development of the money tree, and often the roots of the plant will be burned by overfertilizing, causing root rot. At this time, we need to water it thoroughly several times to dilute the excess fertilizer, let it drain out of the pot, and minimize the damage to the roots caused by the fertilizer.
3. Temperature Too Low
Because the money tree likes a warm growing environment, the maximum temperature cannot exceed 35°C, and the minimum temperature cannot be lower than 5°C. If the temperature is too low, it will also cause the roots to rot. So when the winter temperature is low but the light is good, let it get more sun and receive sufficient light. Especially for potted money trees in the north, in winter they should be moved indoors in time to be cared for in a warm environment.
4. Pathogen Infection
Pathogens are generally more active on rainy days or when watering. If they are accidentally brought to the roots of the money tree, it is relatively easy for the plant's root system to rot. At this time, we need to treat it differently according to the degree of root rot. If the root rot is not severe, we can simply water and fertilize scientifically and reasonably, and the plant will slowly return to normal; if the root rot is relatively severe, we need to repot it and change the soil, and plant it again. And when repotting, the roots should be properly trimmed and soaked in carbendazim to disinfect and sterilize.
