Potted azaleas drop leaves easily, but there are many reasons why azaleas lose their leaves. So why do azaleas drop leaves? If it is an azalea you just brought home, the leaf drop is generally caused by a change in environment and soil. And leaf drop in this case is usually a normal phenomenon. It is mainly because the plant had adapted to its original growing environment, and when it suddenly enters an unfamiliar new environment, the plant produces a stress response, often slowly adapting to the new environment by dropping leaves.

If a newly purchased potted azalea shows signs of withering and dropping leaves, what should we do? In fact, the care method is very simple: we can place the newly bought potted azalea in a relatively cool and shady environment for a period of time. There is no need to worry too much about whether the plant will keep dropping leaves, because once the plant adapts to the new environment, the leaf drop will also disappear.

So besides environmental factors that can cause azaleas to drop leaves, another reason is that the relative air humidity in the plant's growing environment is not sufficient and the air is too dry. If the air is too dry, we can maintain air humidity at 70-80% by misting, and we can also mist the plant to keep it moist. This is because before azaleas are bought, they are generally placed in greenhouses, and it is difficult for them to adapt to a home environment in a short time. Therefore, we need to provide them with a suitable growing environment as much as possible.

But there is another relatively common reason for azaleas dropping leaves, and that is overwatering. So we must water in moderation, especially not too much, otherwise water accumulation in the pot can easily inhibit root respiration, thereby reducing the roots' ability to absorb, which causes leaf drop. Generally, watering follows the principle of "“water thoroughly only when completely dry”," as long as there is no water accumulation in the pot.

So if a potted azalea has already grown quite a few flower buds, but the buds have not yet opened or bloomed, what do we need to do for the azalea? I believe many gardening friends have already thought of it: that must be timely topdressing, and specifically phosphorus fertilizer. After all, the azalea is about to bloom and needs to consume quite a lot of nutrients, and topdressing with phosphorus fertilizer happens to replenish nutrients well and promote flowering. It is usually recommended to use monopotassium phosphate, then dilute it at 1000 times, shake well, and spray it on the potted plant.

Of course, we can also alternate with some general liquid fertilizers for flowers and plants that have good absorption effects. In this way, the azalea will have sufficient nutrients to achieve flowering, and the flowering effect will also be very good. Not only are the flowers large and brightly colored, but there are also a great many of them.
