Peace lily is also commonly known as "sail smooth" (yi fan feng shun), a name that sounds more auspicious. Peace lily is also commonly known as “sail smooth” (yi fan feng shun), a name that sounds more auspicious. There are also quite a few peace lily varieties; a casual stroll through the flower market will basically let you find several varieties. Since peace lily is suitable both for foliage viewing and flower viewing, only if you want it to bloom smoothly, the care work cannot be careless.

Although peace lily is relatively easy to keep alive, and as long as the care environment is suitable, the plant also grows very quickly. But quite a few gardening friends have found that their potted peace lilies turn more and more yellow the longer they are kept, and they also bloom less and less. So how should peace lilies with yellowing leaves and few flowers be cared for?

1. Increase light

Since most gardening friends like to place potted peace lilies on a desk or writing table, but these two positions generally do not have very sufficient light. If this goes on for a long time, the plant will be unable to carry out normal photosynthesis due to lack of light, which will lead to the phenomena of yellowing leaves and few flowers.

Although peace lily is also fairly shade-tolerant, it still needs sufficient light to carry out normal photosynthesis and thus promote growth. So in this situation, we must promptly provide it with sufficient light, just scattered light is enough; there is no need to put it directly in the sun to be exposed. That would actually be bad, because the plant fears direct strong light.

2. Change the soil in time

Since peace lilies bought at the flower market are usually cloned from planting bases, although the plants all look fairly neat. But because the seedling containers and substrates used by each grower are not the same, the later growth of the plants also varies greatly. Generally we need to buy peace lilies that come with a plastic pot, because the growing substrate used for such peace lilies is a bit better, namely peat soil.

But if peace lily is grown in peat soil, survival is not a problem, but whether it can maintain a very good growth momentum is not necessarily achievable. Over a long time it may even cause the phenomena of yellow leaves and few flowers. So after we buy it and bring it home, we can add black charcoal, perlite, leaf mold, etc. to the peat soil, then make it into a mixed substrate, and then carry out repotting and soil changing for the peace lily.

3. Choose the pot scientifically

For potted peace lily, the pot must be chosen appropriately; it can neither be too big nor too small, just suitable for the plant's growth. Because if the pot chosen is too big, the amount of water used for watering will naturally be relatively large, and the water is consumed slowly, making it hard to control the rhythm of watering. But if the flower pot chosen is too small, the space is small, and the distribution of the plant's root system will often be affected to a certain extent; at the very least the roots cannot stretch out freely, thereby reducing part of the absorption capacity and affecting the plant's normal growth.

4. Water reasonably

For many gardening friends, potted peace lilies are generally placed in an indoor environment for care. In this way, the light and ventilation conditions are often limited to a certain extent, so we cannot water every day either; generally it is enough to water once every 2-3 days according to the dry and wet state of the potting soil. Besides needing to observe changes in the moisture of the potting soil, we also need to judge whether watering is needed according to the state of the peace lily's leaves. If the leaves are slightly soft and a bit drooping, it means it is time to water promptly.
