How to Grow Hydroponic Pothos So It Thrives
Pothos is an evergreen plant with a well-developed root system and lush stems and leaves. It can be grown both in soil and hydroponically, has very high ornamental value, and also does an excellent job of purifying the air. However, hydroponic growing often results in slower growth than soil cultivation, so how do we grow hydroponic pothos well?
To grow hydroponic pothos well, besides mastering certain cultivation techniques, there are also some points to note that we need to pay enough attention to. To grow hydroponic pothos well, we mainly need to do a good job in the following aspects of care:
1. Change the water frequently
The key to hydroponic plants lies in changing the water, and the same is true for pothos. Be sure to change the water frequently, especially when the water quality has deteriorated, change it promptly. Generally, in the early stage of hydroponic growing, change the water once every 2-3 days, and in the middle and later stages, once a week.
2. Good water quality
Pothos also has certain requirements for water quality. If the water source is well chosen, it will provide good assurance for the normal growth of the plant; but if the water quality is too poor, or if the water is not changed in time and the water quality deteriorates, the plant is not only prone to infection but also grows relatively slowly. It is usually recommended to use purified water or mineral water for hydroponic pothos.
3. Sufficient nutrients
Pothos has lush stems and leaves and vigorous growth, and needs to consume quite a lot of nutrients. So after hydroponic pothos has developed roots, add a few drops of pothos-specific nutrient solution when changing the water to supplement the nutrients in the water, thereby better promoting the plant's sprouting and growth. At the same time, it can also make the pothos leaves glossy and the leaf color more emerald green, so the ornamental value is naturally higher.
4. Clean the roots
After the pothos root system grows larger and longer, we need to regularly trim the roots. Because of metabolism and the care process, over time the pothos root system will produce quite a lot of attached matter, which inhibits the normal respiration of the roots and thus affects their normal growth. So we should regularly clean the roots, and do so together with root trimming. This is generally done when changing the water, and the pollutants or impurities on the inner wall of the container can be cleaned off at the same time.
5. Spray water to maintain humidity
Pothos is a green plant that likes a moist growing environment and has relatively high humidity requirements. If the air is too dry, this is unfavorable for the plant's growth. So we can increase the air humidity in the environment by frequently spraying water or misting. Besides frequently spraying water on the leaves, we can also spray water into the surrounding environment of the plant, including the ground, to create a suitable humidity environment for the plant's growth.
6. Scientific placement
Hydroponic pothos also has relatively high environmental requirements. It needs to easily receive scattered light while avoiding direct strong light, and also needs a ventilated environment with relatively high humidity. So if we keep it as an indoor potted plant, it is recommended to place it in a relatively sunny spot near a windowsill or on a balcony. In this way, the plant's leaves can not only spread out freely, but it also grows emerald green and glossy.
