Pothos is a very easy houseplant to grow, but as winter arrives, improper care can easily cause pothos to show symptoms of illness due to low temperatures. Therefore, the care and management of potted pothos in winter becomes very important, so how do you care for pothos in winter?

1. Temperature protection

Under normal circumstances, keeping the temperature in the pothos growing environment above 10°C is more suitable; if it drops below 10°C, the plant is also quite prone to cold damage. So when growing pothos in winter, the temperature must first be guaranteed, and it is best to provide it with a care location where the temperature is between 15°C-20°C.

2. Sufficient light

The growth of pothos is also inseparable from light, especially in the lower-temperature environment of winter, when sufficient light is even more necessary. Only then can the plant carry out photosynthesis effectively and maintain a normal growth state. But if the outdoor temperature is too low, we can place it indoors in a spot that makes the most of the light for care. In this way, both freeze protection and photosynthesis are taken care of, thereby better promoting the growth of the pothos.

3. Scientific watering

There are also many things to pay attention to when watering pothos in winter. First, do not directly use tap water for watering, because tap water not only contains chlorine, but the water temperature in winter is also very low, which easily shocks the plant. Generally, choose clean water close to the indoor ambient temperature to water it, so that the pothos can be protected from cold damage.

In addition, pothos consumes relatively little water in autumn and winter, so the amount and frequency of watering also need to be controlled well. Generally wait until the potting soil has dried and the surface soil begins to peel before watering again, to avoid water accumulating in the pot. Generally, use a spray bottle to pour evenly along the inner edge of the flower pot.

4. Reasonable fertilizing

For the fertilizing management of pothos in winter, we must use the watering method and must not apply foliar fertilizer. In addition to controlling the concentration of the fertilizer solution well, we must also avoid water accumulating in the pot due to excessive fertilizer solution, which can cause the roots of the pothos to rot. If we use a special nutrient solution for pothos, dilute it with water at a ratio of 1:1000 and spray it on the leaf surface.

5. Pruning yellow leaves

Sometimes pothos also develops yellow leaves in winter, so once yellow leaves are found, we need to prune them promptly. But be careful not to pluck off the yellow leaves directly with your bare hands; instead, it is recommended to cut them off with pruning shears. When pruning yellow leaves, generally keep about 2 cm of the leaf stalk. Through pruning, the spread of yellow leaves can be suppressed, and nutrient consumption can also be reduced.
