As a winter ornamental plant, wintersweet is actually very simple to care for and manage, and it does not need the careful tending or attention that many flowering plants require. So how do you care for potted wintersweet in winter?

1. Plenty of light

First of all, we must place it somewhere with very abundant light, which not only promotes the growth of the wintersweet but also improves the plant's resistance to pests and diseases. At the same time, because winter temperatures are low, more light means more photosynthesis, and when the plant grows better, its own cold resistance will naturally be enhanced to a certain degree.

2. Control watering

For potted wintersweet, watering is a very important care task. This is because wintersweet is a plant that flowers first and grows leaves later; it does not grow leaves during its winter flowering period, and only gradually grows leaves the following spring. Therefore, in winter it loses only a small amount of water through transpiration, so watering in winter must be minimal.

Watering wintersweet in winter must be controlled promptly; generally, just wait until the potting soil is completely dry before watering. Note that watering for most flowering plants follows the principle of "water thoroughly once the soil is dry," but wintersweet should not be watered thoroughly all at once in winter; a moderate amount each time is enough, and you must make sure the potting soil is completely dry before watering.

3. Do not fertilize

Although winter temperatures are low, if the wintersweet has already set flower buds, do not fertilize it. As everyone knows, topdressing can replenish nutrients for the plant and thus promote its growth. For wintersweet, fertilizing after it sets buds in winter will likewise promote its growth, which instead causes the flowers to wither prematurely and shortens the flowering period.

But if fertilization is truly necessary, it is best to apply only a dilute phosphorus-potassium fertilizer, preferably monopotassium phosphate, and the concentration must be well controlled and sufficiently dilute to avoid negative effects.

4. Good ventilation

Even though it is winter, we should still place the potted wintersweet in an environment with good ventilation, which helps prevent pest and disease infestation and ensures the plant stays in a healthy growing state.
