Jasmine flowers are elegant and carry a faint, delicate fragrance; in short, when it blooms it gives people a feeling of freshness and purity. To make it bloom more and give off a richer fragrance, we need to master a few small tips or tricks in our daily care and management.

1. Plenty of light

Jasmine is a sun-loving plant. Not only does it need plenty of light during the growing season, but it also cannot lack light during the flowering period. However, the growing environment of many hobbyists means that only one side of the potted plant can fully receive light, while the other side still remains in a light-deficient state.

Because plants are phototropic, the side that receives plenty of light will inevitably grow better and bloom better, while the side lacking light will not only have poorer branches and leaves, but also bloom less, or even fail to bloom at all. Looking at the whole plant, this inevitably reduces the ornamental value of the potted plant.

To change this situation, during our usual care we must turn the flower pot from time to time so that every side of the plant can fully receive light. In this way, every side of the plant grows and blooms more evenly, and the ornamental value of the potted plant is also improved overall.

2. Shaping and pruning

Jasmine has fairly strong sprouting ability, and under suitable growing conditions it tends to grow lush branches and leaves. However, in some areas it often grows too densely because of differences in light, nutrients and so on. If the branches and leaves are too dense, the plant's ventilation and light penetration will naturally be reduced, and over time this will have a negative effect on its growth, thus affecting flowering.

In this case, we need to promptly prune the overly dense parts to an appropriate degree. Promptly thin out some of the excessive and overly dense branches and leaves, and at the same time cut off undesirable branches such as crossing branches, overlapping branches, clustered branches, dead branches, old and weak thin branches, and diseased or pest-infested branches. If you come across leggy branches, they should also be appropriately shortened, or even cut off.

For some branches that are too dense but cannot be cut off, besides shortening them, we can also use wire to pull them outward. Through this series of treatments, the ventilation and light penetration of the whole plant can be improved overall, allowing the plant to receive light more evenly and fully. The plant will also grow more vigorously, and this can promote sprouting and make the plant bloom more.

3. Pruning after flowering

The flowering period of jasmine is very long, even exceeding half a year, and it blooms multiple times each year. After each round of flowering, be sure to promptly remove the spent flowers and shorten or cut off the old branches that have already bloomed. Do not worry that this will weaken the plant, because jasmine itself tolerates pruning well and has strong sprouting ability; the key point is that pruning branches and leaves also reduces nutrient consumption.

In addition, jasmine blooms from new flowering branches one round after another, so cutting off old flowering branches will not affect its flowering; it will also promote sprouting and can even promote flowering. Therefore, pruning after flowering is very important. But after pruning, remember to promptly apply fertilizer so the plant quickly recovers its growth and blooms wave after wave.

Of course, the above aspects only have a certain promoting effect on the growth and flowering of jasmine, and are aspects that are necessary but often overlooked in daily care and management. If you want jasmine to grow better and bloom better, you need to combine and do well in all the other aspects of management as well.
