Freesia not only has rich flower colors, but also blooms very fragrantly, and its flower spikes emerge separately from the base of the plant. So how do you care for freesia cut flowers?

Freesia not only has rich flower colors, but also blooms very fragrantly, and its flower spikes emerge separately from the base of the plant. Because of its beautiful flower form, many colors, and soft branches and leaves that tend to lodge, it is very suitable as a spring cut flower material, especially the double-petaled varieties. So how do you care for freesia cut flowers? How long can freesia last in water?

When using freesia as an arrangement, it is generally paired with Phalaenopsis as the theme, along with magnolia, baby's breath, asparagus fern, dragon-wandering willow branches, etc. Using such a combination to decorate the home environment not only looks dignified and elegant, but also fills the whole room with fragrance, so it is deeply loved by flower enthusiasts.

Freesia blooms delicately and cutely, with rich and colorful flowers and a quiet, pleasant fragrance. When kept as a cut flower, the fresh cut flower's blooming period generally reaches 1-2 weeks, that is, 7-14 days. In other words, when freesia cut flowers are kept in water, they can stay in the water for about 1-2 weeks. Moreover, during the period of water cultivation of cut flowers, regular daily care is also needed.

  1. When we receive the freesia, cut it from the bottom of the flower branch at a 45-degree angle, adjust the length of the flower branch appropriately according to the height of the vase, and then place all the trimmed flower branches together in a bundle for later use.

  2. Next, pour clean water into the vase, with the water line controlled at preferably 2/3 of the vase height, add a few drops of nutrient solution into the water, and insert the prepared freesia bouquet into it. Be careful to cut off the leaves at the lower end of the flower branches to avoid their being submerged in water, otherwise they can easily cause rot and spoil the water quality.

  3. For freesia cut flowers kept in water, generally change the water once every 2-3 days, and it is recommended to trim the roots appropriately each time you change the water. At the same time, clean the bottom and inside of the vase thoroughly to avoid leftover residue that could spoil the water quality or breed bacteria. Then simply reinsert the freesia cut flowers.

  4. If the freesia we obtain is still relatively young and some time away from blooming, we can place it in a relatively warmer environment, using increased ambient temperature to prompt it to bloom quickly.

  Tips:

  1. In a water cultivation environment for freesia arrangements, do not place them together with narcissus, and also keep them away from ripe fruit.

  2. For newly received freesia, if there is still some time before the buds open, you can appropriately raise the temperature to promote blooming, so it is recommended to keep it in a slightly warm environment for care. After all, many flowers and plants have the characteristic of blooming in warm spring weather.

  3. When caring for freesia cut flowers normally, it is recommended to add a few drops of nutrient solution to the vase, but do not splash water on the petals and leaves, otherwise it can easily cause rot.
