How to care for Daphne during the bud stage? These points must be done well
Daphne blooms very beautifully and also gives off a rich fragrance. But if you want it to open its buds smoothly as scheduled, the care and management work during the bud formation and bud growth period must be done well. Because the bud stage is the key period for whether Daphne can successfully open its buds, and if care is improper, not only will it fail to open its buds, but it may even cause bud drop. So, how should Daphne be cared for during the bud stage?

The flowering period of Daphne is longer than that of many flowering plants, and it can basically continue blooming for more than 2 months. In order to take good care of Daphne during the bud stage so that it can smoothly open its buds in the following time and display its beauty and fragrance, we mainly need to do a good job in the following aspects of care and management:
1. Temperature protection
Daphne's flowering period is in the relatively cool and cold season, that is, winter and spring. And during this period, the temperature is sometimes still relatively low, while Daphne's cold tolerance is not very strong, so providing temperature protection is very important for its smooth bud formation and bud growth. If the temperature is too low, it will not only easily delay the flowering period, but may also cause bud drop, and there is even a risk of cold damage. Generally, keeping it at around 10°C is more suitable, and at this temperature it is helpful for promoting flower bud differentiation and bud formation.
2. Sufficient light
For flowering plants, generally sufficient light needs to be provided during the flowering period. However, considering that Daphne relatively prefers a semi-shaded growing environment, generally providing sufficient scattered light is enough. But the temperature during its flowering period is often still relatively low, so it should be allowed to get more sun, and it can even withstand direct light. Generally, providing about 4 hours of light per day is more suitable, and this is relatively beneficial for promoting the growth and development of its buds.
3. Reasonable water control
During the bud growth period of Daphne, watering management is also very important. It can neither lack water nor be watered too much. If it lacks water and suffers drought, the plant will drop buds due to dehydration, but if watered excessively, it will also wash off the buds, and there is also a risk of causing root suffocation and root rot. At this stage, we only need to keep the potting soil slightly moist, that is, neither dry nor wet is ideal.
4. Timely topdressing
During the period when Daphne forms buds, it is often when sufficient nutrients are most needed, so timely topdressing is very important, as it can both promote the growth and development of buds and provide sufficient energy for the upcoming flowering. But when fertilizing at this time, it should mainly supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and potassium dihydrogen phosphate is a very good choice. Dilute it with water at a ratio of 1:1000, shake well, and then directly water the roots or spray the leaves, either is fine.
