Since ancient times, osmanthus has been one of the ten traditional famous flowers of our country. Usually in the golden autumn season, it can bloom with beautiful and fragrant flowers, both ornamental and aromatic. Therefore, osmanthus is deeply loved by the public, especially when it is grown and cultivated as a potted plant, its application value is often even higher. However, to grow potted osmanthus well, you usually still need to master certain methods. After all, it is not as easy to care for as osmanthus planted in the ground. So, how do you grow potted osmanthus?

If you want to grow a pot of osmanthus well with your own hands, you first need to start in spring or autumn, because potting osmanthus in these two seasons makes it easier for it to establish and survive. Generally, it is not recommended to pot it in summer, because summer temperatures are high, the weather is hot, and water evaporates quickly. If it is potted in this season, osmanthus often struggles to establish and survive. In winter, because the temperature is usually relatively low, the roots are prone to freezing during potting, so it is also not very suitable to pot it in this season.

But to grow potted osmanthus well, in addition to choosing a suitable season for potting, you also need to create a suitable growing environment for it. Only when all growing conditions are met can it maintain good growth. In particular, the potting soil environment should usually be fertile, loose, and fairly breathable and well-draining, slightly acidic soil. Absolutely avoid using alkaline soil or relatively sticky, heavy soil for potting osmanthus.

At the same time, osmanthus is also a tree species that is relatively tolerant of semi-dry conditions, so when watering normally, do not use too much water. Otherwise, if water accumulates in the pot or the potting soil remains too moist for a long time, it can easily inhibit root respiration, leading to root suffocation, and in severe cases, root rot may occur. For normal watering, you generally need to follow the principle of "water when dry, stop when wet," and achieve "do not water if not dry; if dry, water thoroughly." Generally, when you see the surface layer of the potting soil become dry and pale, water promptly. You can also tap the outer wall of the flowerpot and judge whether watering is needed by listening to the sound or by lifting the flowerpot to estimate its weight.

In addition, osmanthus is a sun-loving tree species, so it usually needs to be exposed to more sunlight to provide it with sufficient light. Its usual placement must make it easy to get sunlight, and at the same time ensure smooth ventilation, with humidity maintained at 50%-60%, which is more suitable. Therefore, it is generally recommended to place it in a well-lit outdoor environment for care. If osmanthus is kept as an indoor potted plant, be sure to ensure sufficient light; otherwise, poor growth may occur, leading to fewer flowers or even no flowers.

Of course, osmanthus also relatively likes fertilizer, but it does not like concentrated fertilizer or raw fertilizer. If nutrients are lacking, it will not only affect the normal growth of the plant, but may even affect flowering. Generally, in early spring and early summer, apply a little more nitrogen fertilizer to promote growth. Normally, nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer is mainly applied, and during the flowering period, phosphorus-potassium fertilizer is mainly applied. However, the concentration and frequency of fertilization need to be controlled well, achieving "light fertilizer, frequent application," and applying 2-3 times a month is suitable.
