Landscape rock bonsai is a three-dimensional painting. Through the author's artistic processing and the magical technique of moving heaven and shrinking earth, the beauty of nature is reproduced in a tiny pot through the forms of mountain bodies, plants, and accessory arrangements. And the rockery is the main body of landscape rock bonsai, and only when the making of the rockery is completed can a complete landscape rock bonsai be assembled. So, let us first make the rockery.

  Tools/Materials

Tools: saw, chisel, pliers, hammer, panel, brush, etc.

Materials: shallow pot, landscape rocks, cement, sand, etc.

  Steps/Methods:

  1. Conceptual design: Before making the rockery, you must have a clear plan. You must determine what type of bonsai you are making and what kind of bonsai shape it will be, otherwise you will not know where to start. According to the concept, initially arrange the shape of the mountain body in a sand tray. Note: the height and size of the rockery must be in proportion to the size of the shallow pot.

  2. Bonding and gluing the rockery: gluing the mountain body

Step one, first mix the cement glue slurry. Note that the slurry should be mixed as it is used, and also pay attention to the thickness of the slurry.

Step two, stone processing. Use tools such as a hammer, chisel, and saw to process the mountain body that needs to be glued, creating textures and relatively unique shapes.

Step three, bonding the mountain body. Apply cement glue slurry with a panel separately to both sides of the rocks that need to be bonded so that the rocks fit together as one. When bonding, pay attention to trying to make the joint of the rocks show no trace of breakage, and also pay attention to cleaning off excess slurry from the bonded area.

  3. Maintaining the rockery: After the mountain body is completed, it must not be touched or moved immediately. It must be sprayed with water and maintained for two or three days, and only then will the mountain body basically become firm.

Landscape rock bonsai can also have two rockeries appearing in one pot at the same time, one as the host mountain and the other as the guest mountain. (The host mountain is relatively tall and large, while the guest mountain is relatively low and short.) At this time, one bonsai requires making two rockeries.

  4. For the completed mountain body, you can give it slight decoration, arrange soil, and add some small green branches, etc. After all these are completed, the making of the rockery mountain body is considered finished. After completion, the rockery cannot be moved immediately. It needs to be maintained for several days. It is best to spray it with water and give it about three days of care so that the rockery can be better reinforced.

After learning the basic methods of making landscape rock bonsai and seeing so many beautiful bonsai, are you tempted? Making a stunning landscape rock bonsai is also an excellent way to cultivate your character. Let's give it a try together!
