How to plant potted lotus? Learn the correct planting method
For potted lotus, the pot soil is best taken from pond sludge dug in early winter and used after freezing, or select clayey field soil, and plant the lotus rhizomes in early April to early March. Usually 3 nodes are taken as 1 plant, and the buds in the nodes as well as the terminal bud should be complete and undamaged. When planting, first spread 1-2 cm of coarse sand on the bottom of the pot, then fill with 10 cm of soil, and place 200-300 g of hoof and horn or pig bristles in the middle of the pot as base fertilizer.

Then, fill with soil to cover the fertilizer up to the middle of the pot, and plant the lotus rhizome in the pot near the edge with the head low and the tail high, with the tip (lotus head) covered by 7 cm of soil and the tail covered by 1 cm of soil. After planting, place a small flower pot in the center of the pot to prevent the pot soil from being washed away when watering. When starting to water, wait for it to seep through, then fill the pot with water.
1-2 days after planting, remove the pot water and debris together. After 2-3 days, once the pot soil has settled, add water again to keep it 2 cm deep, and gradually add water up to the pot rim as the leaf buds grow and the temperature rises.
Steps for potting lotus:
1. First spread organic fertilizer (such as crushed bone pieces, etc.) on the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer, and add 5-6 cm of soil.
2. Put two or three seed lotus rhizomes with 3 nodes into each pot (wash them, cut off the old and decayed rhizome runners, and the front end must have intact terminal buds), and plant the front growing point diagonally downward into the soil, leaving the tail slightly exposed above the surface, to prevent new rhizome runners from pushing out of the soil surface, so as to avoid the leaf stalks and flower stalks lodging. This is called the "hide the head, expose the tail" method.
3. After the seed lotus rhizomes are planted, cover them with a layer of plain sandy soil to keep the water quality clean, then slowly water in the center of the pot.
4. At the beginning, the water level should not be too high. After the leaves grow out, gradually raise it.
5. If there are too many and too dense floating lotus leaves, the excess leaves can be tucked into the pot mud.
