Of course, if you want to grow lotus, you can also follow these steps!
Below is an introduction to the planting method for a small bowl lotus bonsai:
1. Seed selection
When selecting seeds, choose plump, heavier seeds. After selecting them, use needle-nose pliers to clip open the tail end of the seed. This is a technical task: you need to clip it open without damaging the embryo inside.
2. Soaking
Soak the treated seeds in water, and use warm water if possible. At first the water will become cloudy; change the water 2-3 times a day at the beginning, then once a day afterward. Soak for 3 days.
3. Sprouting
After 3 days, you can see the seeds sending out new sprouts. Throw away any seeds that have not sprouted. The sprouting and growth are very rapid; in half a day, the sprout can grow 1-2 cm.
4. Add mud and transplant
After 5—6 days, when the bowl lotus sprouts have grown to about 6 cm, you can put soil into the small pot. The colorful beads children play with can also be used.
When adding soil, pay attention to the spacing so that the leaves are exposed above the water surface. Do not change the water too often; water that is too clear is not good for the growth of bowl lotus.
5. Completed
In this way, the small bonsai is planted. You can add whatever you like to the soil according to your personal preference and arrange your small bonsai beautifully. However, bowl lotus is a light-loving plant, so it needs to be taken out to bask in the sun often!
Bowl lotus originates from Jiangsu. The most exquisitely grown bowl lotus I have seen only has flowers 5-6 cm across. They are delicate and petite, and very beautiful.
Now the weather is gradually warming up, so there is no major problem with planting bowl lotus (give it more sun). When it is full of flowers and leaves, prune it to make it well spaced and beautifully arranged. Of course, making it into a bonsai is the most charming option, and you can pair it with other aquatic plants. Start taking action as soon as you think of an idea!
