Water Canna - many gardening friends feel it must be very beautiful just upon hearing the name, and indeed it is; its beauty truly lives up to its name. Whenever spring arrives and a hundred flowers bloom, the Water Canna cannot resist joining the contest of blossoms, bursting forth with flowers as dazzling and radiant as sunlight.

The Water Canna is a highly ornamental flowering plant, commonly used along roads, in parks, wetlands and other places, and is often seen in factory green belts as well. Because of its strong pollution resistance and purification capacity, it plays a vital role in landscaping. Besides its use in gardens, many gardening friends also grow it in pots on their own courtyards or balconies for enjoyment, so how do you plant the Water Canna?

1. Propagation

Potted Water Canna is mostly propagated by tubers, ideally in spring during March-April. When dividing the tubers, make sure each tuber has 2-3 long, robust buds, so that propagation is more likely to succeed and sprout.

2. Planting

Plant the cut tubers directly into loose, fertile potting soil. When planting the tubers, cover with soil while ensuring the growing points are slightly exposed above the soil surface. After planting, water thoroughly once, then place in a shaded spot to recover; they will establish in about 1 week.

3. Placement

The Water Canna likes to grow in a warm, humid environment with plenty of sunlight, so placement is very important. It is recommended to place it in a courtyard or on a balcony where it can fully receive light for care and management.

4. Care

The care and management process is key to whether a potted flowering plant grows normally, so to let the Water Canna show itself in its most beautiful form, care and management must not be neglected.

1) Temperature: The suitable growing temperature for Canna is between 15-28°C; below 10°C growth will be inhibited. When winter temperatures are too low, prepare to keep the tubers warm.

2) Light: Canna likes hot, high-temperature climates, and the Water Canna is the same. This shows the plant is very light-loving, so it should be placed in a spot with ample light for management.

3) Water and fertilizer: The Water Canna, as its name suggests, has strong water tolerance; if grown in water, it can grow normally even in water 30 cm deep. When the Water Canna grows 4-5 leaves, to encourage it to send up flower spikes on schedule, apply 2-3 times a diluted monopotassium phosphate solution or spray a thin foliar fertilizer.

4) Pests and diseases: To avoid infestation by pests and diseases, if grown in water, keep the water clean long-term, promptly remove floating debris, and prevent snails from gnawing; if grown in soil, do a good job of weeding the potting soil surface and promptly prune scorched branches and leaves at the base.
