In the previous article "Pothos Cutting Step-by-Step Guide," the editor introduced how to promote rooting of pothos cuttings through water propagation induction. A sponge was used for water propagation, and rooting took about 3 weeks. After the cuttings root, what we need to consider is potting and transplanting them for soil culture.

Since we used water propagation to induce rooting of the pothos cuttings, the root system of the cuttings is still very tender at present. If they are transplanted into soil for soil culture, the operation method must be cautious and standardized, otherwise it may affect the survival rate of soil culture. So, how do you transplant hydroponic pothos to soil culture? Below is the illustrated process.

1. We also need to prepare a disposable paper cup, but to avoid water accumulation caused by watering too much, we need to use a utility knife to poke a moderately sized hole in the bottom of the cup to facilitate drainage.

2. Use transparent tape to seal the hole at the bottom, and leave the two ends of the plastic tape a little longer so that it can be pulled off later.

4. Place the plastic cup upright on a tray, then add an appropriate amount of clean water to the cup; it is best to keep the water level at 1/3 of the cup.

5. Pour the previously prepared potting soil into the cup, then mix it with the clean water in the cup and stir it into a paste.

6. Insert the base of the rooted pothos cutting seedling into the paste-like substrate in the cup. Hold the cutting steady with one hand, and continue filling soil into the cup with the other hand until it is about 1-2 cm from the rim of the cup. After filling the soil, gently level the surface soil.

7. Next, peel off the plastic tape previously used at the bottom of the cup to seal the drainage hole, and the excess water in the cup will flow out from the drainage hole at the bottom.

8. After that, place the cup with the pothos cutting seedling in a cool and ventilated place for care, and wait quietly for it to recover from transplanting. After about a week, we can resume normal management. This is because generally after one week, when the soil in the cup becomes dry, the pothos cutting seedling will also have completed recovery from transplanting.

9. After the potting soil becomes dry, we can also cut open the paper cup, and then transplant the pothos cutting seedling together with the substrate in the cup into a real flower pot for care. In this way, we have completed the process of converting hydroponic pothos cuttings to soil culture.
