I believe many people like that kind of climbing green plant. This plant not only has strong growth ability, but also looks better in large and small patches. Like a creeper, does it give the feeling of being wrapped around and protected outside the house? It also has heat protection, air conditioning and noise reduction functions. The editor prefers these plants even more, especially through the window, seeing the visual effect of scattered creepers spreading outside the window, and feeling that the whole person is better.

Basic information about ivy:

Boston ivy (Latin name: Parthenocissus tricuspidata), also known as julong, maple vine, xiaochongcao, hongsicao, hongyan, xiehu, hongteng, bashanhu, of the grape family Vitaceae. It blooms in summer, with small, yellow-green flowers, and purple-black berries. It often climbs on walls or rocks and is widely used in China. The roots and stems of ivy can be used as medicine, with the effects of breaking blood, reducing swelling and poisoning;

How is ivy?

Ivy can be grown by the sowing method, cutting method and layering method.

[Sowing method] After harvest, peel the seeds from the fruit skin. After washing and drying, they can be stored in moist sand for one winter. Heat preservation and moisture retention are good for germination. In early spring the following year, sowing can be done in mid-March. With coverage, they can emerge in early May, and cultivation can be carried out in 1 to 2 years.

[Cutting method] In early spring, cut stems 20~30cm long and insert them into an open seedbed, water them, and keep them moist, so the vines will survive quickly. You can also use young shoots with tender leaves in summer and autumn, with shading and water saving. It can quickly produce new branches, has a high survival rate and is widely used. Insert hard branches from March to April, cut the hard branches into 10-15 cm sections and insert them into the soil; the soil should be permeable and kept moist. Softwood cuttings are inserted in the new year and carried out in summer.

[Layering method] It can be carried out by the wave layering method during the humid and cloudless weather of the rainy season. The survival rate is high, and transplants can be separated in autumn and planted the following year.

Considerations for planting Boston ivy:

The following matters should be noted in the propagation and planting process of ivy:

1. Seed sand storage and germination. When the berries mature and turn purple in September, take them out immediately, wash and dry them, and sterilize the surface with a 0.05% carbendazim solution. After draining, store them in wet sand layers. In early March of the following year, soak the seeds in warm water at 45°C for two days, changing the water twice a day, then mix the seeds with moist sand at a 2:1 ratio, place them in a sheltered place away from the sun, cover them with a straw bag, and spray water to keep them moist. After about 20 days, 20% of the seeds will be ready to sow when they turn white.

2. Sowing. First, level the seedbed, water it, sow the seeds and sand together on the bed, with a sowing rate of 100 grams per square meter. Cover with 1 cm thick loose humus soil under the forest, and cover with a small arched shed covered with polyethylene plastic film.

3. Seedling management. After the cotyledons emerge, expose the film on sunny days and cover it on rainy days to increase soil temperature, promote uniform seedling emergence, and prevent damage by scarab beetles. In addition, always sprinkle water to keep the soil moist.

4. Transplanting and later management. After the true leaves have unfolded to three, choose a cloudy day or after 3 p.m., and transplant once; 1 foot density. Immediately after planting, pour manure once (1:8). In the rainy season, you should not let water remain for too long. After two months, the vines are usually more than 60 cm long. At this point, the first pinching can be done to prevent the vines from tangling with each other and to make the vines thicker. Pinch once a month, plus auxiliary support. With the above measures, during the leaf-fall period, the average thickness of the seedlings can reach 0.5 cm or more, and they can be planted.

5. Fertilization. During the growing season, liquid fertilizer can be applied 2 to 3 times. And often remove loose soil to make a border, so it is not overwhelmed by grass, to promote its vigorous growth. Ivy is afraid of waterlogging, so attention should be paid to preventing soil water accumulation. Ivy is tolerant of pruning. During the growth process, the branches and doorway can be trimmed to keep it clean, beautiful and convenient.

6. Pests and diseases. Pay attention to the following pests and diseases: powdery mildew, leaf spot and anthracnose. Common aphid damage.

Ivy grows faster and climbs higher. If it is planted in places such as a home balcony, in order to prevent the creeper from climbing onto the neighbor's house, it is better to say hello to the neighbor.
