How to grow a green fig tree? Cultivation methods for green plants and flowers
Figs taste very sweet. Many people like to eat them, but they are rarely seen on the market. In fact, figs can be grown in pots. If you want to grow figs for their fruit, you must prepare a large flower pot. It grows stronger and stronger. Figs are very suitable for growing on a balcony. They can not only add some greenery to the home, but also produce sweet fruit. Now let's take a look at how to propagate them.
1. Pruning
The branches of figs are not dense, and the plant shape is multi-branched. When shaping, the trunk should be kept several tens of cm long, and some strong trunks should be retained on the side branches. Every year, long branches, drooping branches and dead branches are pruned, leaving strong branches as much as possible to increase the number of fruits.
Figs have two fruit seasons, namely fall fruit and summer fruit. Because the fall fruit mostly sets on the lower part of new branches, the branches can be appropriately shortened. Most of the flower buds of summer fruit grow at the top of the branches, so pruning the branches in winter is not appropriate; otherwise, the fruiting of figs will be seriously affected.
The branches of figs are relatively sparse, so cuts heal relatively slowly. If cuts left in winter are pruned, dry branches will appear, which will seriously affect the growth of the branches.
2. Overwintering
Figs grow well in a warm and dry environment. Seedlings are easily damaged by freezing, so warmth should be provided in winter. Some large branches can be wrapped with grass. Once the branches freeze, they should be pruned in time. Seriously, in the coming spring, you can find firmer roots in the potting soil and cultivate a new crown.
3. Watering
Figs are not afraid of being soaked in water, and the amount of watering should be sufficient, especially in summer, when more water should be added. Even on rainy days, the water in the pot still allows them to survive, which shows that figs have a strong ability to survive in a wet pot. However, they are not so strong in a dry environment. Once the potting soil is dry and there is no water, leaves and branches will become very long.
4. Pests and diseases
There are few pests and diseases in figs, but there are still some. If pests are found, some insecticide can be sprayed on the branches to prevent and control them in the pot. If conditions permit, the pot can be disinfected. The disease period is in spring.
The fruit of figs is rich in nutrients and has the effect of strengthening the stomach and promoting digestion. The breeding method is not difficult. Keeping a pot of figs on the balcony is also very easy, and a pot can be raised fairly quickly.
