Can Hosta be grown in water? A detailed guide to hydroponic cultivation methods
Hosta is a very beautiful flower. Many flower lovers like the hosta, as white as jade. In fact, besides soil cultivation, hosta can also be grown hydroponically. Hosta likes plenty of water and fertilizer, and hydroponic hosta looks even clearer and more transparent, but it needs good drainage. What are the cultivation methods for hydroponic hosta? Let's take a look below.
Hydroponic method for hosta
Take the hosta out of the soil and shake off the soil from the roots. Do not damage the roots.
Find a clean transparent glass bottle, and choose a piece of foam that fits the size of the bottle mouth, so that it can better cover the bottle mouth.
Make a hole in the middle of the foam, then insert it into the bottle.
Place the roots of the hosta through the foam hole into the bottle and add some water. The purpose of the plastic foam is to hold the hosta in place so that its roots are less exposed to the water.
Hydroponic management of hosta
Changing the water frequency
In summer, the water is usually changed within 3~4 days, and in winter within 5~6 days. Pond water and river water can be used. If tap water is used, it should be left to settle for 2~3 days before use. Tap water contains alum, which inhibits plant growth.
Fertilization level
With hydroponics, the water is often changed, so fertilization must also keep up. Generally, each time the water is changed, fertilize by sprinkling some liquid fertilizer into the water, and use granular fertilizer as little as possible. This will give you a fragrant flower in summer!
Rooting method
With constantly changing water, the soil on the roots will gradually decrease, and new roots will continue to grow. At this point, more attention should be paid to protection. If the bottle is spacious enough, you can keep some small fish, which can nibble the roots and purify the water. The small flowers in the bottle can only clean the roots themselves!
