How to propagate a banyan tree? A detailed guide to banyan tree propagation methods for greenery and flowers
Today, the garden teaches everyone to use banyan branches and stick them in to grow little banyan trees. Have you ever heard of it? Haha, with this method, one banyan tree can produce countless little lucky trees. It really is amazing!
Method 1: River sand cutting for rooting
Step 1
Use a clean knife to cut off the current year's semi-lignified branches of the banyan tree. The branches should be sturdy and healthy, 10-15 cm long; the cut should be clean and neat. The cut surface is smooth and the cut is horseshoe-shaped to promote the formation of callus tissue.
Step 2
Remove excess leaves, leaving only two old leaves and the core inner leaves, to prevent the leaves from becoming large and the transpiration rate from being high, which would cause dehydration and plant death.
Step 3
Prepare clean river sand in advance, soak it in a carbendazim solution for 1-2 hours, then rinse it several times with water and set it aside.
Step 4
Apply rooting agent to the branch cut, insert it into the river sand about 5 cm, place it in a cool and ventilated place, and spray with water every day to keep it moist. You can cover the plant with a plastic bag or cover the leaves on the surface of the river sand.
Step 5
After 20-30 days, the banyan tree will begin to root. Once the root system has grown, you can prepare nutrient soil for transplanting!
Method 2: Hydroponic rooting
Step 1
Use a knife to cut off a semi-lignified branch of the banyan tree, about 10-15 cm, with a horseshoe-shaped cut, smooth and undamaged, leaving 2-3 leaves and removing the rest.
Step 2
Prepare a plastic bottle or cup, keep half of the water, and after cutting, apply rooting powder to the branch (if there is no rooting powder at home), then insert it into the plastic bottle or cup filled with water.
Step 3
After about 7-10 days, the cut will root. After a few days, take out the rooted part and plant it in nutrient soil for normal maintenance.
