How to care for potted geraniums? A complete guide to care methods
Recently, many friends have asked me how to care for potted geraniums. Here, I will share with you my experience in caring for potted geraniums:
1. Potting soil. Potted geraniums can be grown in humus soil, or peat soil plus 1/5 river sand and a small amount of cake fertilizer as a base fertilizer. It can also be used as compost soil, humus soil, garden soil and river sand at 1/4, plus a small amount of bone meal. Cultivation soil.
2. Light and temperature. It likes sunlight and cool conditions, and fears heat and hot weather, so in autumn, winter and spring it should be placed in direct sunlight. In the hot summer, when the temperature exceeds 35 degrees, it enters a semi-dormant state, and fertilization should be stopped to control watering. From the beginning of summer, move the pot to a cool, ventilated place or a north windowsill or balcony, and always spray water to cool it down.
3. Watering. It prefers fertile soil and is slightly drought-tolerant, but fears waterlogging. Therefore, in spring and autumn, the peak growing seasons, it is recommended to apply nitrogen fertilizer and a combined nitrogen-phosphorus fertilizer every half month. Water normally to keep the soil moist, and do not let water accumulate in the pot. Otherwise, it will cause root rot and even plant death.
In mid-October and mid-October, in northern regions, it is brought indoors before the early frost arrives, as it is not cold-resistant. In winter, determine the amount of watering according to the room temperature. If the room temperature can only be maintained at 6~8 degrees, watering should be strictly controlled to keep the soil slightly moist; if the room temperature can be maintained above 12 degrees, watering should be more appropriate, and every half month a thin liquid fertilizer should be applied - it is best to use a thin liquid fertilizer, and in fact, it will continue to grow. Some varieties can continue to bloom.
4. Repotting. Geraniums grow quickly, so it is recommended to change the soil after autumn. I moved mine out of the room at the end of April. In spring, watering should not be too much, otherwise it is easy to cause leggy growth or yellow leaves in the plant, affecting flowering.
