Roses: How to care for roses so they last longer
AAAAA
Whenever the holiday season comes around, couples and lovers give roses. Many people also like to keep a bouquet of roses at home to look at, but the ornamental period of roses is relatively short. However, with a few techniques, you can make roses last longer and bloom longer. Today I will tell you how roses can stay upright for a long time.
To make the blooming period of roses longer, we need to trim the stem ends of the roses before putting them in a vase. Because the flowers are cut from the plant, the flowers will form a seal at the wound, and the seal will become blocked, affecting the flowers' absorption of water. When cutting, cut at a 45-degree angle 2-3 cm from the stem end, so that the water-absorbing area becomes larger, and cut once every two to three days to ensure that the water-absorbing channel is not blocked. You can also cut the base into 2 to 4 sections, use a small stone to open the cracks, or hammer the base, to expand the water-absorbing area.
Also remove the leaves of the roses to prevent the leaves from rotting in the water and affecting water quality. At the same time, change the water frequently to ensure there are not too many bacteria in the water. In summer, you can put a few pieces of ice in the water to keep the water temperature low.
Adding a small amount of sugar to clean water can promote the opening of flower buds and extend the shelf life of the flowers. Add a small amount of salt to prevent bacteria from growing in the water; the water-absorbing capacity of the flowers is maintained by the difference in concentration between the salt water and the flower cells, but the concentration of the salt water should be controlled within 5%. Adding flower preservative to the water can also extend the freshness of the flowers. In addition, you can add a small amount of beer to the water, or put aspirin powder into the water, which can play the same role.
You can also burn the stem end with a candle flame, then immediately soak it in alcohol for one minute, and then rinse with clean water. You can also dip the base of the flowering branch for a few seconds to act as an overflow for the flower tissue fluid.
Sometimes you find the rose drooping; cut off the end of the flower branch, put it in a container of cold water, and leave only the flower head part. After one or two hours, the rose will wake up; you can use soaked newspaper. Wrap the rose up, and after a while, the flower will lift up.
After the roses are placed in the vase, they should be placed in a place with air circulation and weak light, keeping the temperature at around 5 degrees.
After reading these tips, you now know how to care for roses so they can last longer. These methods apply not only to roses, but also to other flowering shrubs, and these can make flowers last longer at home.
