How to care for flowers

    Water your flowers regularly

Unless you get a suitable amount of rain every day, take the time to water your flowers. Water a few cm away from the flowers to avoid damaging the petals or leaves; a few tablespoons per plant is enough. You can also install a sprinkler or drip irrigation system on an automated setup to do the work for you.

    Remove weeds

Of course you want your flowers to be the focus of your small garden, so don't let weeds steal the show! When you see them appear, pull the ugly weeds out of the soil. Not only are weeds unattractive, but they also absorb from the soil and ground the nutrients your flowers need. With these nutrients, flowers can grow healthily.

    Prune your flowers

After each bloom, flowers will die or age and wither; cut such flowers off. Cutting off dead flowers and leaves stimulates new growth and makes your flowers look even more beautiful.

    Add support

If over time your flowers grow very tall, they may become too heavy to stand up on their own. Set bamboo or wooden stakes or forked branches in the ground and let the plants lean against or wrap around them. For vining plants, this is especially useful and necessary, since they grow by twining.

    Consider transplanting

When you want to help your flowers keep growing, the original spot may no longer be big enough. Consider a larger place, and add new flowers to the old spot. This will make your garden bigger, healthier, and more beautiful!

DIY tips

When you buy a plant, bring a sheet of white paper and put it under the leaves. Gently shake the plant; if there are many holes on it or leaves rotting and falling off, do not buy this plant, because it will infect the other plants in the garden.

Even if your soil looks good (black, with some worms, not too sandy and not too sticky), adding a little compost to the planting area does no harm; it can hold moisture and add nutrients.

If you have pets, add fencing and barriers around the planting area to prevent them from trampling the newly planted flowers.

On flowering plants and shrubs, do not use lawn fertilizer, because it will make the branches and leaves too green and delay flowering. Lawn fertilizer has equal ratios of nitrogen and phosphorus, so for flowers, do not use 10-10-5 or 14-14-5 fertilizer.

Precautions

Follow the instructions on the small plastic marker. Specifically, depending on what it needs, make sure the flowers are planted in sunlight or shade.

Some flowers are toxic to people and pets, so unless you are certain, keep children and pets away from the plant.
