The correct way to water orchids: water them this way and the roots won't rot for 10 years
There are many kinds of orchids, they bloom with fragrant and beautiful flowers, and people love orchids very much, but they also feel orchids are hard to grow, especially when watering them, and they always fail to get it right. Watering orchids is a technical skill. How can you correctly master the techniques of watering orchids? Below, the editor of Huacaole shares orchid watering knowledge with you.
I. The correct way to water orchids

Orchids like warm, humid, cool environments, and they are afraid of strong light and dryness, so during ordinary care, reasonable watering is crucial. To master the correct way to water orchids, you need to combine the air humidity of the orchid's growing environment, temperature changes, ventilation, and the materials in the orchid's soil to decide how often to water and how much to water each time. Only in this way will the problem of orchid root rot and yellow leaves not occur.
1. The most common orchid watering methods are: pouring, sprinkling, and misting
1) Pouring means placing the orchid pot into a large bucket and letting the water slowly seep in, so the watering is more even.
2) Sprinkling means using a watering can to spray the entire pot of orchids, which can effectively soak the soil through. Be careful not to pour water into the leaf crown of the orchid.
3) Misting means using a sprayer to spray out a water mist, mainly to increase air humidity.
II. Precautions for watering orchids
1. The potting soil for growing orchids only needs to be slightly moist. Humidity can be observed with the naked eye, by weighing the pot with your hand, or by tapping the flowerpot and listening to the sound. When the surface of the potting soil has not become dry, generally there is no need to rush to water, except in summer.
2. Water orchids according to the season. In winter, the temperature is low and water evaporates slowly. To water orchids, keeping it at about three times a month is roughly enough. In spring and autumn, orchids grow vigorously and the temperature rises, so watering is about once a week. Water thoroughly each time, and let the water run through for a while so the planting medium absorbs enough water. In summer, high temperatures make evaporation and drying easy, so watering should be more frequent than in other seasons. The number of times is not fixed; it depends on changes in the potting soil.
3. Watering orchids also depends on the potting soil mix used for growing orchids. If it has good moisture retention, the planting medium particles are relatively fine, and humidity is maintained for a long time, then one watering lasts longer. Conversely, the amount and frequency of watering need to be increased. The recommended soil formula for orchid cultivation is: leaf mold 60%, wild soil or red soil from the roadside 30%, river sand 10%. Soil mixed in this ratio has good aeration, drainage, and fertility. Absolutely avoid alkaline soil. After watering, alkaline soil turns white when dry.
4. For water to water orchids, it is recommended to use water that has been stored overnight, or water from a goldfish pond. The best time to water is in the morning or evening when it is cool, which helps the roots absorb water.
