 Beauty Fades, the Fair Wither: Common Pests and Diseases of Morning Glories and How to Treat Them

I. Morning Glory Blooming Period

Morning glory, also called the morning-face flower, generally blooms from June to October. Each day the bloom time is also very short, opening in the morning and falling by noon. It cannot withstand the strong stimulation of sunlight, so it closes at noon.

II. Common Pests and Diseases of Morning Glories and How to Treat Them

(1) Morning Glory Brown Spot Disease

When a morning glory is affected, many round or polygonal irregular lesions appear on the leaves, with the center of the leaf dark gray and the edges dark brown. A pale black mold layer forms on the surface of the lesions, and in severe cases the lesions cover the entire leaf, and the leaf gradually withers.

Treatment method: Spray pesticide promptly at the early stage of the disease, once every 7~10 days, and spray 2~3 times in a row. Normally plant them a bit densely, do not water too much, and promptly remove diseased leaves when found;

(2) Morning Glory Damping-Off Disease

Although petunias grow prostrate, they can also develop damping-off disease. When affected, the whole plant droops and lies flat on the ground, and the leaves gradually turn yellow and rot.

Treatment method: Once the disease occurs, the entire plant should be pulled up with its roots, and chemicals such as Previcur and Genbingzhi should be used to drench the soil; a 800—1000-fold solution of chlorothalonil or thiophanate-methyl can also be used for treatment.

(3) Morning Glory Pests

Morning glories have relatively few pests, and pest problems generally rarely occur. The common pests of morning glories are: aphids, leaf-rolling moths, red spider mites, and cabbage caterpillars.

Treatment method: Pay attention and observe during care, and when pests are found, spray the relevant chemicals.

Summary

“Toot-toot—toot-toot—” the little snail, the little bird, and the little earthworm all puffed out their little mouths and blew hard on the little trumpets that the morning glory gave them. Only with careful protection and proper care in normal times can the morning glory and its friends play happily.
