What to do when Alocasia (drip-tip Guanyin) leaves turn yellow and growth declines after being kept for a long time
Drip-tip Guanyin, also called Alocasia (Alocasia macrorrhizos), is a very good ornamental plant. Its flowers look like Guanyin, which is why it is called drip-tip Guanyin. It likes warm and humid environments. However, keeping drip-tip Guanyin at home, especially indoors, also requires attention to many aspects, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and the plant will grow very weak, and it might even die on you. What should you do when drip-tip Guanyin leaves turn yellow, do not grow new leaves, or grow poorly?

Long-term placement indoors in a spot without sunlight. Especially when placed in the living room, it may have had many leaves when you bought it and looked very green, but if it stays in the living room without sunlight, the leaves gradually turn yellow and lose their vitality.
The evaporation rate at home is too low, and if you water frequently, the water sits trapped in the soil. Moreover, the soil has all turned into mud, and the roots simply cannot breathe air inside it, so over time the roots rot and the leaves turn yellow. If you see that the soil is not that dry, do not water. Occasionally you can mist the leaves with water.
If the flower pot is a ceramic pot, it is not breathable, which further promotes soggy potting soil. So if necessary, you need to repot and change the soil. How to repot drip-tip Guanyin was introduced in detail in a previous experience article. If there is a suitable opportunity, consider repotting and changing the soil.
Control the amount of watering. Also, do not casually pour diluted tea water or milk water either. Although it likes a humid environment, those things are not decomposed, and they cannot become fertilizer either, so they can only make its leaves turn yellow and ugly. Drip-tip Guanyin likes fertile soil, so you can use nutrient soil to plant it.
Increase sunlight exposure, because drip-tip Guanyin is a tropical and subtropical plant and prefers a warm environment. If it is placed in the living room, quickly move it to a sunny spot on the balcony. Also, in cold temperatures like now, if drip-tip Guanyin is placed on an open balcony, the leaves are also prone to turning yellow, so quickly move it indoors.
Place it in a ventilated and breathable location. Not only do people need to breathe fresh air, plants are the same. Whether placed indoors or on a balcony, make sure the windows are opened often, so that it does not become too stuffy and fresh air can flow in. Pay attention to these few points above, and you should be able to grow drip-tip Guanyin fairly well.
